Who Offers Better Experience
To keep it precise, Apple Music and Spotify both have a clean and easy-to-use interface. Spotify has a dark appearance the challenger has a fresh white app but both are designed to make the real purpose of searching music, navigating the library and switching to radio seamless. When playing your favorite track, both streaming services offer the option of displaying the lyrics for your karaoke practice. Searching music to your liking at any particular time of the day shouldnt be a problem if you know the name of the song but what if you dont. Spotify here has an edge with the option to let you search songs based on lyrics.
Apple Musics Desktop User Interface Is Much Buggier Than Spotifys
Spotifys desktop interface is incredibly intuitive. The search function is phenomenal, and I can almost always find what Im looking for. On the other hand, Apples search functionality is, again, a bit buggy.
When I search for a track or artist in Apple Music, it pulls up the artists that are already in my library. 9/10 times Im not searching for songs, artists, or albums that are already in my library.
Im never sure where I need to go to search their entire database of 75 million+ tracks. It has gotten better, and I think Ive got the hang of it. This whole functionality could just be user error .

Who Has More On The Table
Interestingly, Spotify has a catalog of over 70 million songs, which Apple Music betters with way over 75 million songs. In addition, the latter also allows you to access the iTunes library and play it across devices whenever youre signed in with Apple ID.
Spotify does allow the user to play music saved on their devices via its app, but theres no option for cloud storage. So there is a certain limitation here. Its pertinent to note, both services offer access to new music releases. Apple Music also provides access to certain exclusive music videos as well.
In addition to the free pass, Spotify tips the scale in its favor for being the only streaming service that offers podcasts within the app. For a comparison Apple has a separate Podcast application. But if youre here just for music, Apple Music and Spotify are both compatible with Android and iOS and you get to use them across a range of devices from phones to smart speakers to PC and Mac.
Spotify Has More Opportunities To Collaborate With Other Users
Apple Music and Spotify both have the option to create playlists, but something unique about Spotify is that you can invite other people to add to your playlist. Creating playlists with other users allows you to connect with people over music paving the way for a more social platform than Apple Music. Spotify also allows you to follow other users or their playlists and see what theyre listening to as well.

Social Sharing Is A Win For Apple Music
Spotify codes can be scanned with the camera to share playlists.
Both services let you follow your favorite artists to keep up to date with their posts and latest releases.
You can also follow friends. On Spotify, you can see what song your pals are listening to in real-time on the desktop app.
Spotify Codes are a way to share tracks, albums and playlists among friends. It’s kind of like a custom QR code that you can scan with the camera in Spotify if you’re listening in the same location, or share through messages if you’re apart.
Many popular musicians seem to be more active in posting updates on Apple Music and it’s easier to find that content than it is on Spotify.
Naturally, you can also follow your friends and see what they’re up to across both platforms. While it’s much easier to find profiles on Apple Music than it is on Spotify, you do have to already have your friends in your contacts list to follow them.
Spotify has Group Sessions that lets two or more Premium subscribers control music playback and collaborate on a shared playlist.
Winner: Apple Music
More Songs & Exclusive Releases
Apple Musics catalog is simply bigger than Spotifys. The first-party Apple service has about 45 million songs. Spotify, by current estimates, has more than 30 million songs. Thats close, but Apple Music has the edge. A lot of that is due to its existing and already massive iTunes catalog.
But along with more tracks total, Apple Music also has more higher-profile exclusives than Spotify. In the past, thats included Frank Ocean, Drake, Taylor Swift and Kanye West, and it’s largely because Apple Music doesnt have a free tier. On the flip-side you’re always welcome to a lengthy free three-month trial to test Apple Music for yourself.

Speakers And Voice Assistants Compatibility
As an Apple Music subscriber, you can use Siri as a personal DJ to control song playback, queue up songs, find song facts, add songs to your library, play your favorite playlists, or even play something new. This is a big advantage Apple Music has over Spotify, which requires a more complicated solution using Siri Shortcuts to get Siri to play nice with the Spotify app, and even then it lacks many equivalent features.
Apple’s HomePod speaker is essentially made to be used in conjunction with Apple Music. In fact, one of the main reasons for Siri on HomePod is to control your Apple Music collection. There are Siri voice commands for accessing content like playlists, genres, moods, liking or disliking songs, playing more music based on something you’ve heard, starting a new radio station, and much more. None of these functions will work with a Spotify subscription — you can stream audio to HomePod from a device running the Spotify app, but that’s it.
On the plus side, Spotify supports lots of different third-party devices, from game consoles to smart speakers. And if you own an Amazon Alexa-enabled speaker you can link it to both Apple Music and Spotify, but check your region first as support can vary depending on where you live.
Spotify Is Better For Use With Voice Assistants
Spotify is compatible with many voice assistants, including Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
If you use a voice assistant in your daily life, whether it be through a smartphone or smart speaker, Spotify has you covered. The platform is supported by most, if not all voice assistantsincluding , , and Apples Siri. Yes, you read that right. Even Siri supports Spotify. Do note that voice assistant integration requires a Spotify Premium subscription.
On the flip side, Apple Music is quite lacking in terms of voice assistant functionality, with only Siri having full support for the platform. Unless youve got a HomePod or any other Siri-enabled device, dont expect to stream your Apple Music playlists using your non-Apple virtual assistant.

The Louder The Better So Apple
In the dance music space every artist is competing in the loudness wars. The louder your track the better its going to sound. This is clearly not true, but music that is louder to the human ear is perceived as better.
In my own experience I have found that Apples 256kbps AAC file is cleaner, punchier, crisper, and louder. Is it better sounding than Spotify? I think so.
I havent put my finger on it just yet, but Ive always found Apples sound quality to be superior.
Try it for yourself. Listen to the same track on Spotify and then Apple Music. Which one do you think is louder or higher quality?
Apple Music: Pricing Options
|– Hulu plan- Showtime|
Unlike Apple Music, Spotify allows you to use the service for free with a few caveats. Music can be played in shuffle mode youre limited to skipping songs up to six times per hour. Recently though, some have reported a bug that allows free users to skip songs as many times as they want. Spotify has yet to comment on the matter.
Apple has also announced that later this year, its music streaming platform will also be available as part of Apple One: the companys collection of services that gives you access to Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, and 50GB of iCloud storage. The Individual plan starts at $14.95/month, while a family plan will be available for $19.95/monthwith support for up to five users per family account.
Comparing the prices, it seems that both services offer a great value for money and you cant go wrong either way. If youre a student, Spotify may appeal more to you with its inclusion of non-music streaming perks like Showtime and Hulu. However, if youre already invested in the Apple ecosystem, then Apple Musicor even the Apple One bundlemay be worth considering.

Were You Thinking Of Creating An App

Apple Music allows you to share playlists over AirDrop with other registered users or create content links that you can post anywhere you like.
However, its social media integration is more limited than Spotifys. Its possible to share your listening habits with the rest of the world if you arent too keen on sharing them. However, its an option on both platforms.
Apple Music Vs Spotify: Social Media
One of Spotify’s clearest wins is its wealth of social sharing features. You can easily share Spotify content as Instagram and Facebook stories, post album art on Snapchat or create links and scannable, QR-like Spotify Codes to share music and playlists on any messaging platform.
Apple Music lets you share playlists with other registered users over AirDrop, or create content links to post wherever you want, but its social media integration is much more basic than Spotifys. If youre not overly keen with sharing your listening habits with the world, that might not be an issue, but its all optional on both platforms.

User Interface And Mobile Experience
Despite Apples penchant for minimalist design, Apple Musics mobile interface was less than intuitive out of the gate. But with iOS 14, Apple Music is much smoother. The library is now on the homepage of the Music app all the music you own can be accessed in this tab, and you can easily filter by Playlists, Artists, Albums, Songs, and Downloaded Music, just in case you dont want to waste your precious mobile data.
Tapping on the Listen Now tab now brings up several different personalized options. The Top Hits Mix and the daily themed playlists provide even more ways to discover new tunes, while the Browse tab gives you an avenue to explore popular music, videos, and Apple exclusives. The Radio tab gives users access to hundreds of Apple-curated music stations, broken up by genre, artist, and host. Those looking for something specific can use the Search tab, which allows you to quickly search through either your personal library or the Apple Music library.
Apple has also integrated Siri with Apple Music, allowing subscribers to issue voice commands through their Apple TV, iPhone, or Mac. If you were to ask Siri to play the No. 1 song from 2001, for instance, Lifehouses Hanging by a Moment would quickly start playing. Its a cool feature that Android users wont get, as they dont have access to Siri.
With Apple Being Such A Massive And Profitable Company They Sure Do Have A Lot Of Kinks In Their Application
Yes, a lot. According to Business of Apps, Apple Music boasts more than 72 million users in 2020. They also have more than 75 million tracks available on the service .
I listen to a lot of very niche eurodance music. Bootlegs are fruitful in this community. Its oftentimes very difficult to find the original audio file . The music is quite big in Europe in countries like Poland, Slovakia, Germany, Netherlands, and Sweden. There are a number of tunes that just dont make it over to this side of the pond.

You Can Stream Songs For Free On Spotify
Apple Music does not have a free streaming option like Spotify does. Although there are some adds if you just have the free version of Spotify, you can still access all the same songs and create playlists. Even if you just have the free version of Spotify, you still have basically all the same functions as premium users so its a pretty good deal. Spotify also gives you access to not just music, but also a large range of podcasts that you can still listen to even if you dont have premium.
Why Does Apple Music Delete My Playlists
In this case, to restore disappeared Apple Music playlists on iOS, the common way is to re-enable your iCloud Music Library, so as to re-sync the lost songs from Apple Music with iTunes on a Mac or PC. Another case is that your Apple Music subscription is expired, so all your playlists on Apple Music will be gone.

Apple Music features a clean white look on mobile, while Spotify paints it black across its apps. Both apps are pretty easy to navigate, with the main tabs found at the bottom of the interface.
