Broadway Production Of Waitress Heading To Streaming

The Broadway musical Waitress returned to Broadway this month for a limited revival – and as published in June, while still not officially confirmed, the musical was filmed live this week starring composer Sara Bareilles in the title role.
Continue reading to find out all we know about the filming!
Plans for a filmed performance of the West End production of Waitress were reportedly shelved last year after the COVID-19 lockdowns in the UK forced the production to close earlier than expected.
The filmed performance, which was due to star Waitress composer Sara Bareilles in the title role, was originally going to feature Gavin Creel which starred in the production prior to the abrupt closing.
Due to international travel restrictions set in March 2020, the filmed performance reportedly couldnt be organized in time, with Sara Bareilles and Gavin Creel ending their run in the London production a week early before filming could take place.
With the news that Broadway theatres can reopen at full capacity this September, the Wall Street Journal reported Waitress would return to Broadway nearly two years after it last closed.
Broadway producer Barry Weissler said to the Wall Street Journal that Waitress composer Sara Bareilles would lead the cast as Jenna Hunterson once more in a “limited revival” of the show.
No official release date for Waitress has been announced.

What Is Waitress About
Jenna works as a pie chef in a small town diner. Her time spent baking is a kind of meditation, a break from her mundane existence where her creativity is allowed to flourish. Renowned throughout the town for her crinkly crusts and fluffy pastries, she harbours dreams of opening her own pie shop and making a new life for herself. But when she becomes unexpectedly pregnant by her bullying husband Earl, it seems like she may have to abandon her dreams forever.
Hope is at hand in the form of the town’s handsome new doctor, and the announcement of a pie-making competition in a nearby town. The winner of the contest will be awarded a large cash prize, and Jenna realises it may be her one shot at turning her life around.

Waitress The Musical By Sara Bareilles Is A Story About Jenna The Titular Waitress In This Story She Is The Best Pie Maker In Town In The Local Cafe She Gets To Serve The Pies Herself Being A Waitress The Sweetness Of Her Products Served As A Stark Contrast To The Life That She Lived She Found Herself In A Loveless Marriage And As Cliche As It May Sound She Longed For A Better Life
She found an opportunity. There was a pie-making contest held in a nearby town. It can be the ultimate ticket out of poverty. A convenient excuse to escape an inconvenient marriage. And perhaps the burnout that is consuming her. She feels stuck in a rut. She knew that much of what she had to do relied on herself. Does it mean she would not consult friends and family anymore? Of course not.

Jenna is our titular waitress in Waitress The Musical by Sara Bareilles. But as a fictional character, Bareilles managed to turn her into a character that everyone can relate. In some of Bareilles concerts, she would sing the anthem of Waitress The Musical. It is entitled She Used to be Mine.
She Used to be Mine was Jennas song that summed up everything she felt in her life. The disappointing husband. The exhausting cafe job. The timidity that almost turned her into some pushover. The sad realization that she lost a major part of her bubbly personality to the stressful life she let herself into. It was like reexamining her life and not liking what she sees. It made She Used to be Mine a painfully poignant song here at Waitress The Musical by Sara Bareilles.
