Sonos Play: 1 And Play: 5
If you’ve already got an Alexa device but still want the audio power of Sonos, the Play:1 and Play:5 speakers are perfect. They can be hardwired to any Echo device with an auxiliary jack , to instantly upgrade them to smart speakers, or you can wirelessly connect to the Sonos One, which has Alexa built right in.
Which Echo’s Sound Best
All Echos are geared up to play music and audio, but not all do so at the same level of fidelity. So which Amazon Echo sounds best? Top of the tree, audio quality wise, is the it’s clearly geared up to compete with the likes of Sonos, boasting five internal speakers working together, support for music mastered in 3D, and tech that can adapt the audio output to the acoustics of a room. You also get three 2-inch midrange speakers, one 1-inch tweeter, and one 5.25-inch subwoofer in one compact unit as well as a support for Dolby Atmos. It’s a serious piece of kit for music fans.
After that comes the newly updated 4th generation Amazon Echo, which comes with a downward-firing 3-inch neodymium subwoofer and upward-firing dual 0.8-inch tweeters more than enough to tackle a wall of guitars and drums. This now puts the standard Echo in line with the older Echo Plus.
The new Echo is spherical too, which looks pretty sweet. Inside you’ll also find a AZ1 Neural Edge silicon module, which processes your voice commands quicker via advanced machine learning and speech recognition.
The new 4th generation makes do with a single 1.6-inch front-firing speaker, a slight step-up from the previous generation in terms of audio quality it’s really just for podcasts and a few tunes in the background, but bass and audio quality have both been given a slight boost with the new version.

Amazon Music Unlimited And The Amazon Music Echo Plan
If Prime Music isn’t enough for you, Amazon Music Unlimited may be the solution. Music Unlimited “unlocks” tens of millions of songs on Amazon Music, including new releases. While Prime Music offers a small sampling for Prime members, Music Unlimited aims to compete with Spotify and Apple Music.
Music Unlimited costs $8/month or $79/year for Prime members . Non-Prime members pay $10/month. Interestingly, you can also subscribe to the Music Unlimited Echo Plan for $4/month if you only want to listen on your Echo device.
This plan only lets you listen on a single Echo unit though, so it’s no good if you want to listen across multiple devices. You should subscribe to the Individual Plan if you want to listen on more than one.
Aside from the more expansive catalog, Music Unlimited basically stacks with the Amazon Music core. You’ll just need to decide whether the additional subscription is worth it for you. There’s a 30-day trial available that lets you ensure your favorite tunes are available.

If youre not interested in the free tier of Amazon Music, you can always hit up the radio.
While Google obviously has YouTube to call on, theres no option for that on your Alexa speaker unless, of course, you’re trying to watch YouTube on the Echo Show. But there is the TuneIn radio skill, which will give you access to pretty much any radio station on demand.
Just say Alexa, play ” to get started. It should work automatically but say “Alexa, enable TuneIn skill,” if not.
