Does Nashville Have The Best Guitar Shops In The Country

Though many cities in the U.S. have great guitar shops, if youre looking to get a guitar, Nashville, a city known for its relationship to the instrument, might be the best place to find one. Heres a look inside Music Citys Temples of Spruce to find out if Nashville really does have the best guitar shops in the country.

We believe music has the power to heal, not just entertain, says Pamela Cole, who in January 2009 opened Fannys House of Music with partner Leigh Maples. The shop is a Nashville landmark in part due to the much-visited mural painted on its exterior that features an all-female cast of guitar icons from Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Loretta Lynn to Joan Jett and Joni Mitchell.

Fannys, which sells a raft of preowned acoustic and electric guitars, accessories, and even vintage clothes, sits at the intersection of Holly and 11th Streets in East Nashville, perhaps the neighborhood most associated with the citys huge change in demographicsand real estate pricesover the last two decades.

This community really embraced us from the beginning, when we only had five guitars, three amps, and ten pick packs, says Cole. As Nashville has grown, so have we. In fact, weve even started a nonprofit called Fannys School of Music, an addition to our store that will add ten lesson rooms, a music therapists office, and a second-story community space/performance area.

Nashville Used & New Music

Few local shops cater to full bands as well as Nashville Used & New Music. The Nolensville Pike shop sells Marshall amps and Meinl cymbals, Hammond organs and harmonicas, TC Electronic stompboxes and tenor saxophones… If your band’s missing a piece of gear and you’ve only got a few hours to find it before soundcheck, you’ll probably find what you need here.

Our Rise To Becoming Nashville’s #1 Music Store

The story of Nashville Used & New Music began, appropriately enough, with the classic and often repeated tale of a young musician moving to Nashville to make it in the biz. Inspired by his brothers band, Clarksville, Tennessee native Charlie Shrader began playing music while in high school, in both the school band and as the leader of his own garage band.

We had a small shop on Nolensville Road, Charlie recalls. One day I decided to sell all my music gear and Jim wanted to sell his stuff too. So we set up a sale on a Sunday and ran an ad in the paper. At the end of the day we had a room full of sawdust and about 10,000 bucks. So we decided to get rid of the sawdust.

What Charlie and Jim discovered was an untapped and under-served market in Nashville for used, quality musical equipment. The handful of dedicated music shops in the city tended to emphasize new product to the general public and pawn shops offered little in the way of knowledgeable customer service about the products they sold. They started off selling strings and accessories while consigning musical instruments. The vision was to be one of the first shops to offer a full line of music instruments from guitars to drums, keyboards, horns, woodwinds, and more catering to a clientele that ranged from grade school novices to experienced Nashville Cats.

Welcome To Bandwagon Music And Repair

Bandwagon Music & Repair offers the largest selection of school band instruments, accessories, and instrument repair in middle Tennessee. Owned and operated by former music educators, we are here and ready to help you in any way that we can.

Finding Bandwagon was literally an answer to prayer, my daughter was having difficulty with the school bass clarinet she was using and every day would come home frustrated and sad because she was not able to play at her potential and she had Midstate tryouts coming up. Linden was so helpful and took the time to listen to my daughter play and help figure out the problem. He gave great advice to her, helped her choose a better reed which has help enormously and adjusted the instrument. After all he did my daughter finally had some hope that she would be able to play at Midstate. He even followed up with a call to see how things were going with her instrument after he adjusted it. We were able to locate a used bass clarinet for her to finally own her own and he did an amazing job on adjusting it and getting it back to us in time for Midstate tryouts. My daughter made it into Midstate and we are so thankful for Bandwagons help to get her there.
