Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1 is the soundtrack album for the film Guardians of the Galaxy. Featuring the songs present on Peter Quill‘s mixtape in the film, the album was released by Hollywood Records on July 29, 2014. A separate film score album, Guardians of the Galaxy , composed by Tyler Bates, was also released by Hollywood Records on the same date, along with a deluxe version featuring both albums. The soundtrack album reached number one on the US Billboard 200 chart, becoming the first soundtrack album in history consisting entirely of previously released songs to top the chart.
The album topped the BillboardTop Soundtracks chart for 11 consecutive weeks and 16 weeks in total. As of April 2017, it has sold over 1.75 million copies in the United States alone, and has been certified Platinum by the RIAA. The album was the US’s second best-selling soundtrack album of 2014.
Spirit In The Sky Norman Greenbaum
Religious music doesnt always hit the top of the charts, but this one did in both the US and UK. Norman Greenbaum sings about how after death, hell be goin up to the spirit in the sky, that is to say, hes going to heaven. Norman is Jewish but chose to write the song about Jesus because he thought people would like that better than singing about Jehovah. This song was in a trailer for GotG but wasnt in the film.

Anyone whos watched the Guardians of the Galaxy movies knows Peter Quill loves music more than just about anything. Classic pop tunes are woven into the fabric of why we adore these films and characters so much, so Im happy to report there will also be a great playlist for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind when this new attraction debuts May 27 at EPCOT.

When Disney Imagineers were developing this family-thrillcoaster, they came up with a list of more than 100 potential songs for the Starjumpersonboard sound system. The team rode the attraction over and over again testing how various tracks fit with thespirit and the movement of the coaster. They finally settled on this AwesomeMix of six songs, in their classic versions:

- I Ran
- One Way or Another
Whatever his intentions, at least we have the Guardians onour side awesome tunes and all. Hooked On A Feeling By Blue Swede
As far as the history of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise goes, “Hooked On A Feeling” by Blue Swede is unquestionably the most important, as it was the track that initially got everyone’s attention in the blockbusters’ trailers. It also happens to be part of a fantastic sequence in James Gunn’s first Marvel title. It proves fantastic and wonderfully jarring background music as Peter, Gamora, Rocket and Groot first enter the Kyln, but more significantly it’s used to highlight the importance of music to Peter– who demands a guard treat his cassette player with respect. It’s legitimately the first moment in the franchise where we see the adult hero get emotional, and while it ends with him being abused to comedic effect, it still holds weight.
Fooled Around And Fell In Love
Peter Quill is a completely immature mess, and the Guardians films are essentially showcasing his growth into a more responsible person. While conversing with Gamora, Quill tries out his playboy tricks, playing the very on-the-nose song of “I Fooled Around And Fell In Love.” However, there seems to be more sincerity to Quill’s seduction tactics this time around, as he isn’t necessarily trying to just use Gamora for a one-night stand. However, she’s a bit wiser to his “pelvic sorcery” than he assumed and draws her weapon on him, warning him off in a pretty sudden turn of atmosphere.

James Gunn Debunks Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 Music Rumor
Following his impressive run with DC’s Peacemaker on HBO Max, director James Gunn is now fully back on board with Marvel Studios for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Coming with that return to Marvel Studios will be yet another round of catchy music in the Guardians threequel – a defining trait of Gunn’s iconic directorial style.
Fans really wanted to taste it with Gunn’s latest stroke of musical genius as he used Wig Wam’s “Do Ya Wanna Taste It” as the opening intro music for Peacemaker. Now, the director’s impressive knack for using the perfect needle-drops in his work will be seen once again in Guardians Vol. 3 after so many memorable musical moments in his first two Marvel movies.
The big question heading into Vol. 3‘s release is what songs Gunn will choose to use for the third Awesome Mix, which will now come in Peter Quill’s Zune that he got at the end of 2017’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. While some fans are already theorizing what could be on that playlist, the director set the record straight on Twitter regarding what music he could use.
Father And Son By Cat Stevens
Yondu’s sacrifice and funeral at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 are more than enough to have any mature, heart-carrying audience member shedding tears — but it’s the use of “Father and Son” by Cat Stevens that takes this sequence to a whole other level. While something like Harry Chapin’s “Cat’s In The Cradle” would have been far too on the nose, James Gunn makes beautiful and elegant use of a song about a dad passing on life advice to his child just as Peter is fully accepting the reality of who his father truly was. It’s certainly a somber note on which to end a big colorful blockbuster, but that just makes it all the more memorable and impressive.

I Want You Back The Jackson 5
This song is about a man who fell in love with a woman but was foolish enough to let her get away, and now he wants her back. This peppy song put The Jackson 5 on the map and was incredibly popular when it came out. In Guardians of the Galaxy, it plays at the end of the credits with a scene of Baby Groot dancing to it in his planter.

But the soundtrack isnt purely an exercise in nostalgia. Rather, the songswhich appear on Peter Quills ever-trusty cassette player as well as the jukebox on the crews ship, the Milanoalso play a functional role within the game.
One of the games most unique features is the huddle, wherein Quill gathers his fellow Guardians together to make a motivational speech ahead of battle. According to Szczepkowski, the idea for the huddle emerged as a means of getting the music into the games combat sequences.
What if Peter hits his cassette player and cues up one of his songs and that infuses the team to fight even harder and better? said Szczepkowski. This meant the music on the soundtrack needed to be more than just fun and nostalgic it also needed to work in the context of the huddle.
The upshot of these creative decisions becomes apparent as soon as you start playing the game. Once you actually saw the Guardians fighting to something like Culture Club, where its not what you would think as music that fits with it, it worked so well and people were smiling, said Szczepkowski.
When you get into those big battles and you hear the score start mounting up, you almost weep when you hear it because its just so heartfelt, said Szczepkowski.
Disney Reveals 6 Songs In Guardians Of The Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Soundtrack
Following the conclusion of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, Marvel fans haven’t seen or heard much from Star-Lord and the misfit crew. But now, it’s time to save the galaxy. Again. While the debut teaser for Thor: Love and Thunder offered a first look at the Guardians’ roles in the upcoming July film, fans will have the chance to see the team before their big-screen comeback when Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewindopens at Walt Disney World’s EPCOT.
Much like the Guardians themselves, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is a lot. Disney has described the ride as both a “family-thrill coaster” and a “story coaster” that rotates 360 degrees and features a reverse launch. It also includes sequences James Gunn actually directed on the set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
However, Cosmic Rewind wouldn’t be a true Guardians attraction if it didn’t feature some classic tracks and now, just a few weeks out from its opening date, Disney has revealed this coaster’s own “Awesome Mix.”

Rickrolling is the act of including misleading links that would redirect people to something they werent searching for, which in most cases happened to be this song. Astley actually participated in his own rickrolling for marketing promotion of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
Recently, Never Gonna Give You Up reached over one billion views on YouTube, much to the credit of this online trend. But again, Astleys song is a certified hit, despite rickrolling. Never Gonna Give You Up was a best-selling single during its debut year of 1987 and reached a number-one status in the United Kingdom.

Richard Jacques says he had to pinch himself when he got the call to score Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy game. Not least because way back in 2005, at a video game concert in Los Angeles, Jacques ended up meeting the man responsible for creating the characters and stories that have made such a lasting impression on him: Stan Lee. And in typical superhero style, it was there that Jacques made a wish that would become reality 12 years later.
I was introduced through a mutual friend and only had a brief chat with him, but was explaining how music is a really important part of his stories, Jacques tells WIRED with a massive smile on his face from his studio in the UK. Marvel encyclopedias, comics, and figurines make up just as much of the furniture here as the massive mixing desk, old-school synths, and score sheets from previous projects.
I jokingly said to him, One day, Im going to do a Marvel soundtrack! So when I got the call back in 2017 and signed the NDA, as soon as I found out what the project was I was just blown away. Its the stuff that dreams are made of, but straight away I knew Id be the right fit for the project.

I Want You Back By The Jackson 5
James Gunn shows an impressive amount of restraint in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 by not just jamming Baby Groot down audiences’ throats at every turn, because the truth of the matter is that the filmmaker got everyone hook, line, and sinker with the infantilized sequoia during the post-credits scene of the first Guardians. While the alien tree isn’t quite as mobile in the sequence as he is in the aforementioned ELO opening credits from Vol. 2, he still manages to boogie hard listening to “I Want You Back” by The Jackson 5, and gets a comedic beat with Drax to boot. Knowing that Gunn provided the motion reference for Baby Groot’s dance moves makes this sequence that much more enjoyable, but truly by itself it stands out as one of the best Marvel Studios end-of-feature treats to date.
Moonage Daydream David Bowie
What song fits Guardians of the Galaxy better than a Ziggy Stardust song? The song sounds like its far from Earth with its mention of a space invader and a pink monkey bird. In the film, the song plays while the Guardians arrive at a planet that was once the head of a celestial being. The song and the setting both feel far from familiar, making it a perfect match.

Come A Little Bit Closer
Vol. 2 has a lot going for it, and it also hosts one of the coolest scenes in the MCU. As Rocket, Groot, and Yondu break out of their holding cells and reap their revenge on the Ravagers that betrayed Yondu, Rocket manages to taunt the doomed crew with “Come A Little Bit Closer,” as Yondu’s new whistle arrow darts in and out of the turncoats. The visual display of the red line of death and the cheery music playing over the carnage of the mutineers’ comeuppance is a perfect visual and audible treat.

All songsâwith the exception of “Spirit in the Sky”, which is played in the trailerâare featured in the film. “Never Been to Spain” by Three Dog Night, “Magic” by Pilot, and “Livin’ Thing” by Electric Light Orchestra were also used during filming however, the scenes in which they were featured were cut from the final version of the film. “Wichita Lineman” by Glen Campbell and “Mama Told Me ” by Three Dog Night were originally considered for the film instead of “Moonage Daydream”. “Fox on the Run” by Sweet and “Surrender” by Cheap Trick were also considered for the film. Both would be used for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2‘s Awesome Mix Vol. 2.
