Montreal Man In Hospital After Being Shot In Lower Body

Meredith Willson The Music Man (FULL) 2003

A 30-year-old man is in stable condition after being hit in the lower body by at least one bullet.

Montreal police says it received a 911 call at 11:40 p.m. Tuesday about a shooting in a residential building on Queen Mary Road, near Decarie Boulevard.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found the injured man inside an apartment.

The victim was transported to hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

“It would be a tourniquet that was placed on the injury of the victim by police officers that saved his life, according to information obtained by doctors at the hospital,” said Jean-Pierre Brabant, a spokesperson with Montreal police.

There have been no arrests, and police have set up a security perimeter to allow investigators to canvass the scene.

They are not ruling out the possibility that the man inflicted his injuries on himself.

    Early Career And Influences

Gershwin was the son of Russian Jewish immigrants. Although his family and friends were not musically inclined, Gershwin developed an early interest in music through his exposure to the popular and classical compositions he heard at school and in penny arcades. He began his musical education at age 11, when his family bought a second-hand upright piano, ostensibly so that Georges older sibling, Ira, could learn the instrument. When George surprised everyone with his fluid playing of a popular song, which he had taught himself by following the keys on a neighbors player piano, his parents decided that George would be the family member to receive lessons. He studied piano with the noted instructor Charles Hambitzer, who introduced his young student to the works of the great classical composers. Hambitzer was so impressed with Gershwins potential that he refused payment for the lessons as he wrote in a letter to his sister, I have a new pupil who will make his mark if anybody will. The boy is a genius.

The operator was a “soda jerk”, because they pulled a lever to dispense soda water which would then be mixed with different flavors . It could get very elaborate. Today’s coffee places and baristas are their descendants.

Audience Reviews For The Music Man

THE MUSIC MAN (62): “Ya Got Trouble”
    • Apr 29, 2015A con man comes to a small town to form a Boys’ Band, but he falls in love with the local librarian. They simply don’t make films with this kind of energy any more, which is a good and bad thing. The Music Man, if written today, would more fully explore the ethical questions associated with protagonist Harold Hill’s profession, which is appropriate, but Hill’s charm in the person of Robert Preston is infectious and fun and makes all ethical quandaries seem like departures from the fun. All of the musical numbers are scat-style super, and the production design shows of the choreography and high-scale – a scale so high that we wonder where all these people come from.Overall, The Music Man defies logic and modern story-telling, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have its charm.Jim HSuper Reviewer
    • Jun 27, 2014While it’s often associated with sub par high school and community theatre productions, “The Music Man” can work really well if it’s done right and this film adaption is the best example of that. It’s success is probably due to the fact that just about everyone who crafted the original Broadway productions worked on it. Although the most important element was keeping Robert Preston as the lead because no one else could have and still hasn’t played this part so well.Alec BSuper Reviewer

    • Winthrop Paroo: Marian’s shy younger brother
    • Mrs. Paroo: Marian’s mother

    • Tommy Djilas: a troublemaking teen in River City

What Are The Songs In The Music Man

Meredith Willson’s musical features 24 songs. Because the musical is all about a marching band, many of the songs are written with parts for plenty of band instruments, making for a complex and sumptuous score. The new revival cuts one of the songs from the original score: “It’s You,” sung by the Barbershop Quartet the second act now opens with the well-known tune “Shipoopi.” A reprise of “Lida Rose” replaces the “It’s You” reprise. All of the most famous songs remain, however Trouble” and “Seventy-Six Trombones” are often counted among the most iconic songs in musical theatre history.

    Review: Music Man The

Based on the 1957 Tony Award-wining musical of the same name, the 1962 film adaptation of Meredith Wilson’s The Music Man has long been considered a classic of musical cinema. Coming at a time where film musicals were less and less popular, The Music Man was critically acclaimed, and one of the biggest hits of the year. Five years ago, the film was selected by the National Film Registry to be preserved in the Library of Congress, and now Warner Brothers Home Video has released a newly restored version of the film on Blu-ray disc.

Taking place in 1912, The Music Man follows the exploits of Professor Henry Hill , a con-man/salesman who preys on small towns selling them on the idea of a music band, without ever really delivering on his promises. When he arrives in River City, Iowa, his scheme goes into effect, with the help of his associate Marcellus , convincing the town that an all-boys marching brass band would be just the thing to keep the youth out of trouble. In the process, he manages to light the musical spark in the rest of the town, while the skeptical librarian/piano teacher Marian and the Mayor seek to figure out Hill’s credentials.

Fans of The Music Man will find the Blu-ray has a great transfer, sounds good, and is still as entertaining today as it was nearly 50 years ago. It’s a shame that the extras are rather weak, but don’t let that deter you from checking it out!

He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but, despite the best efforts of medical staff, he was pronounced dead, police said.

The annual carnival has been taking place on the streets of Notting Hill since 1966 and served as a way of showing solidarity and strength within the growing Caribbean communities in London.

The 2003 Film Also Has Examples Of:

    • Adaptational Seriousness: This films Mayor Shinn suspects Harold Hill right off the bat, unlike his 1962 counterpart who was captivated by Hills performance, along with the school board, until Marian snaps them out of it using common sense.
    • Truer to the Text: The 1962 film boasts a screenplay by Marion Hargrove, a popular comic novelist of the time quite a few of the dialogue’s juicy verbal niceties, like the exclamation “Great Honk!”, are Hargrove’s. The 2003 film, not having the rights to the Hargrove screenplay, goes back to the stage script for a lot of the lines.

Tropes With A Capital T And That Rhymes With P And That Stands For Pool:

    The Music Man (1962)
    • A Cappella: Both the stage play and the film. Professor Harold Hill teaches the four squabbling members of the school board to sing barbershop. All of their performances from then on are a capella. .) All the other songs, performed by anyone else, have orchestral accompaniment .
    • Absurdly Elderly Mother: Mrs. Paroo, who is clearly well into her middle age and has both an adult daughter and a young school-aged son. If one were to go by the ages of their actors in the 1962 film, Mrs. Paroo would have been 27 when Marion was born and 47 when Winthrop was born. Winthrop must’ve been a Surprise Pregnancy.
    • Eulalie Shinn is played by Hermione Gingold, who was 63 during filming. Mrs. Shinn’s eldest daughter Zaneeta appears to be roughly high-school or college age, while her youngest daughters are elementary school age.
  • Affably Evil: Harold Hill is a conman, but his friendly, charming nature is totally genuine and he winds up helping out the town whilst scamming it. By the end of the show, he’s grown into a total Nice Guy.
  • “I Want” Song: “My White Knight” and its Spear Counterpart, “The Sadder but Wiser Girl for Me”.
  • A characteristic piece of brilliance when you realize that the two songs are counterpoints to each other.
  • “The Wells Fargo Wagon” is another, though it’s more of a “I Wanted It, I Hope It Arrives Today” song.
  • Irrelevant Act Opener: Not only does “Shipoopi” have nothing to do with the plot, it’s a word Meredith Willson invented for the show.
  • Tommy, great honk / Jeely cly!
