The Final Season Intro Could Include More
To represent the numerous impactful events of Season 8, the production team at Elastic were finally able to use modern technology the way they’d always intended. For the first time since the series began, they could show things like the Wall not being intact, partially destroyed by the dragon fire from the finale of Season 7.
They could also showcase where the armies of the dead broke through south of the wall at Eastwatch, where tiles on the ground flip from black to white or vice versa. It represents the White Walkers march, the tiles changing from snow to ice as they move. The intro became an interactive map, not simply a lesson in geography.

Season sixs final episode shares a title with author George R.R. Martins still unpublished sixth novel: The Winds of Winter, featuring the full arrival of the snowy season in Westeros, after years and years of hype.
For Djawadi, the titular theme represents a collision of characters and themes he developed across the run of Thrones, as triumphant moments throughout the Houses Targaryen, Lannister and Stark all play out in rapid succession. The final sequence, in which Daenerys and her army finally set sail for Westeros, stands out as a key example of themes folding in on each other.

Music For The Series Had Already Been Made Ahead Of It
Ramin Djawadi had already begun composing music for Season 1 when the series creators implored him to work on the theme. He had been using a lot of cello in the initial score, so he decided to make it have a large part in the theme because the sound of the series had already been so established.
After seeing the title sequence and intro, he began humming what would end up being the theme almost immediately in his car on the way home. It only needed a little polishing to become the rousing theme that first became such an earworm to viewers.
Light Of Seven Season Six
Light of the Seven is the most incredible track from Game of Thrones. The way that Ramin Djawadi is able to tell the story of the destruction of the Sept of Baelor is impressive as it is but I feel that you wouldnt even have to watch the scene to get an idea what is happening. He is able to convey so many emotions throughout the piece. The initial tension and wonder that we get as we hear the piano take precedence for the first time the building fear that something bad is going to happen the shock when we realize what Cersei has planned the disbelief that she will actually get away with this the desperation and rising fear when it becomes clear that she has already won. This is a testament to Djawadis talent and skill as a musician and composer as well as his ability to bring this fantasy world to life. Light of the Seven is an extraordinary piece of music from one of the most extraordinary moments in Game of Thrones and has definitely earned its place at the top of this list.

Of course, Jon and Daenerys declaration of their feelings for one another was not the only reason why Djawadi named the theme Truth.
Theres this voiceover happening at the same time, he explains, referring to Bran and Sam deducing the true nature of Jon Snows Targaryen roots. Bran is describing who Jon Snow really is. Thats why I saw Truth in the theme. Its the truth being revealed about Jon Snow, who he really is.
Heres another truth: Truth earned Djawadi an Emmy. It was absolutely amazing to get this recognition for the season, he says, and thats about all the praise he allows on the subject. For Djawadi, as always, its about the work, and the personal emotional journey that went into building out the theme.

How Ramin Djawadis musical metaphors left my ears tingling.
Game of Thrones Season 8, Episode 1 had quite the opening sequence. An unidentified boy hurries through the woods toward winter town, located outside Winterfell. No music. As he enters the town, a musical theme begins to play on strings, softly at first, but slowly crescendoes. At the same time, the rhythm of marching feet emerges, quick steps rhythmically in time with the music. The boy makes his way through the town to the gathered crowd on the main road and spots the spear tips of the Unsullied just beyond the line of town folk. The theme continues to grow louder, and now, having climbed a tree, the boy gets a full view of the action, as do we a long line of thousands of Unsullied march toward Winterfell. We leave the boy behind, and see the Unsullied marching toward us. The music continues to build, and brass starts to play as Queen Daenerys and Lord Jon Snow make their first appearance.
A casual watcher of Game of Thrones would take in this scene, and Jon Snows subsequent presentation of Daenerys to the Stark family, as is. A more astute observer might note the visual parallels to Season 1 Episode 1 the unidentified boy climbing to get a view of the outsiders arrival in Season 8 mirrors Bran Stark climbing the walls of Winterfell to catch a glimpse of King Robert Baratheon, the Lannisters , and Lannister bannermen, arriving from Kings Landing to meet the Ned Stark and his family.

So lets just get that term leitmotif out of the way for those of you who arent familiar. Basically, its a recurring musical element that accompanies a character, place, or idea, in a story. In Game of Thrones, Ramin Djawadi creates ample leitmotifs to add context to scenes, and to round out the storytelling. ‘game Of Thrones’: The Beginning Of The End
Theres the main title theme, theres Daenerys theme, the dragon theme, the Unsullied theme and the Greyjoy theme, he says. All of those themes are here within this one piece. I really had fun because theyre all together now for this big moment. Its a great example of how over the course of a season, you can start merging all these melodies together.
Not only was it a moment of triumph for Daenerys, it was also a huge moment for the Thrones audience, as the season six finale led into what was at the time the longest hiatus between seasons. For Djawadis part, he felt a responsibility to leave the viewers with a sense of excitement: Just like how the main title is supposed to get you into the show, this cliffhanger should really get you excited about wanting more and making you wait for the next season to come. It always was meant to be this big, last moment for the show, and therefore, I tried musically to set up the next season.
On that same note, Djawadi presents Truth, one of the final pieces of music heard thus far on Game of Thrones through seven seasons. Its the melody that plays as Jon Snow and Daenerys consummate their feelings for the first time.
The Bear And The Maiden Fair
Who doesnt love a good sing-along? Especially when it takes your mind off all the murder. Gary Lightbody from Snow Patrol makes a short cameo as a soldier of Locke , a bannerman of Lord Roose Bolton who captures Brienne of Tarth and Jaime Lannister. The song is mentioned several times in the novels so when it came to the show, George R. R. Martin provided the lyrics and Djawadi produced the song.
In the track, a bear rescues a maiden who was expecting a knight and it carries significance due to the number unlikely alliances in the series like Sandor and Sansa, Daenerys and Jorah Mormont , and Brienne and Jaime . The Hold Steady recorded a full version of the song that plays over the credits.
