Is There An App That Listens To Music And Tells You The Notes
The App makes it possible for anyone with a mobile phone to score any melody instantly and share it. The ScoreCleaner Notes application listens to your melody, instantly writes it out in musical notation, and then makes it possible to share the written music via social media websites or email, says Sven Emtell.
Great App After I Learned How To Configure
I have owned this for a long time, and rely on it to find keys to songs I want to learn to play. The best way to get highly precise readings on this app is to be sure your settings are configured correctly. I recommend going the settings tab and turning off all scales except “major”. If you do this, most songs will pop up correctly and stay the same during the entire song. HOWEVER, if you have an ability to hear and recognize minor keys, and you are testing a song that you suspect may be in a minor key – turn off the “major” scale and turn on the “melodic minor” scale and give it a try. Also if you know how to recognize a blues tune, you may get good results from setting the scales to “major and minor pentatonic.”If you just turn on all scales, the display is going to show multiple options at any given point during a song. It may also be worth noting that some scales are essentially the same but with a different starting place so if you have a bit of music theory to help you you will enjoy the app more.
Use Cortana To Identify Music
If you want to identify music on PC then you can use Cortana, Microsofts voice assistant. Cortana is no slouch when it comes to identifying songs, and you can simply ask it What song is playing?, or a similar question, and it will identify the song for you.
Recently, Cortana went through many improvements and now its available as a separate app on Windows 10. Earlier, Cortana was also available on Android and iOS , but it has since been killed off.

What Is Pitch Graph
The pitch of your singing is drawn in the music scale as function of time. We call this drawing a pitch graph.
In the graph, each vertical grid line indicates a time mark in the unit of seconds. Each horizontal grid line indicates an exact semitone pitch frequency and is labeled by music name and octave number. For example, C4 means note C at 4th octave, which is corresponding to the middle C in piano keyboard. A4 is note A at 4th octave and has pitch frequency of 440 Hz.
Here are two sample pitch graphs of singing voices. You can see the moving of your pitch as you sing. You can also observe the vibrato of your singing in the graph.

I have tried 5 different apps for learning to read music and this one blows away the competition. My children love to play this and I let them play it as a reward for practicing their piano each day. The level of customizability are superior to the other applications out there and the sound effects provide great positive reinforcement. My 5 year old son learned most all the notes in the treble clef in two days Excellent app, I cant thank you enough.

My seven year old son enjoys playing this app! His piano teacher actually assigned it to him as part of his daily piano practicing. It is easy to use and you can specify which notes to practice.

What a great app! I am a piano teacher and I am going to use this with my students this fall. I love the way you can customize what notes will be used in each race and how fast the races are run. We need more music learning apps like this one. Thanks.

Theres no way to get around the memorization that is required when learning to read music. But there are ways to make it more fun. Any child who is capable of learning and remembering the letters of the alphabet is capable of memorizing the notes on the staff.

Some Music Streaming Sites
Price: Free / Varies
Music streaming services are slowly but surely getting into the music recognition space. Its nothing compared to the rest of the apps on the list, but it can be pretty handy in a pinch. For instance, Spotify has an advanced search that lets you input lyrics and other markers to more easily find songs you know, but dont know the name of. In YouTube Music, Ive had limited, but real success typing in lyrics and finding a song, although I sometimes need to go through several other songs in the list before I find it. If you type in dance for me oh oh, itll correctly show you Dance Monkey by Tones and I. Not all music streaming services have contextual search like this and sometimes the search gives you only wrong answers, but it is an option and since you probably have the service anyway, it cant hurt to try.

The Best Chord Apps For Musicians And Budding Songwriters
There are places you can begin when you sit down to write music, but for most songwriters, it all starts with chords and progressions. These days, thanks to a plethora of apps and online tools, you don’t need to be a trained musician to come up with a great chord progression. Here are the best chord apps for Android, iOS, and iPad.
Guitar chord apps, in particular, tend to fall into two different camps these days. There are those for deciphering the chord progressions of your favorite hit songs, and those that aim to help wannabe musicians create original chord progressions. The reason I am covering both in this best list is that the lines are very blurred between the two here. Allow me to explain.
You cannot copyright a chord progression. In fact, the world of popular music is littered with examples of hit songs with the exact same chord progression. Changing the key, playing the chords in a different position on a guitar’s fretboard or on a different instrument, or changing the timing can dramatically alter the sound and feel of a set of chords, but a great chord progression is a great chord progression. If you are new to writing music, starting with something you’ve heard that sounds great to you is an excellent place to begin. Remember, it’s really just inspiration, rather than theft.
What Other Song Identification Apps Are Available

Shazam isnt the only option. Soundhound likewise identifies songs quickly, from just a short snippet, and keeps a list of tracks youve identified in the past so you can track them down again later.
As well as identifying songs, Musixmatch allows users to search for song lyrics with translations, pairing with music streaming services such as Spotify, Google Play, Youtube and Deezer. It’s like a combination of Duolingo, Shazam and Genius.

New App Listens To Your Melodies Then Writes Them Out In Notation
Researchers at the KTH Institute of Technology in Sweden have developed a smartphone application that converts simple melodies into notation. The app, which is available now worldwide, provides a simple and effective tool for getting that melody out of your head and into written, shareable form.
The most compelling thing about ScoreCleaner Notes is its simplicity. Users can play a melody into their smartphone’s microphone and moments later its key, tempo, time signature and the musical notation itself will pop up on the screen. Ask just about any musician and they’ll tell you that this is a tool that they would most definitely welcome.
The app’s simplicity is combined with a high level of accessibility, giving it the potential for use in a wide range of environments, from bedrooms and studios to classrooms. Users don’t need to know how to play an instrument to use the app, and don’t even need to know how to read or write music, but can simply hum or sing the melody into the microphone. Once recorded, the melody can be played back as both a MIDI piano sound or the original recording.
Once a recording has been made, the resulting notation can be shared via email or social media, making it a powerful tool for musical collaboration. Users can also sign up for a free ScoreCleaner Cloud account which offers unlimited cloud storage for melodies, and automatically syncs with the desktop version of the software.
