Check Apple Music Service Status
You may be unable to use Apple Music if theres an issue with the servers powering Apple Music and Apple Music Subscriptions services. Head to the Apple System Support page and check the indicator next to Apple Music and Apple Music Subscriptions.
A yellow indicator means a server-side issue with the service, while a green indicator tells you the services are running correctly. If the System Status page highlights a problem with Apple Music, youll need to wait until Apple fixes the server downtime. Better yet, contact Apple Support to report the issue.

Subscriptions Should Not Be Affected
Fortunately, Apple has separate sharing options for subscription services like Apple Music and Apple News+, which means you can share those with your family members without turning on Purchase Sharing. As Apple Arcade and Apple TV+ roll out later this year, the company would presumably add individual sharing toggles for those as well. So even if Apple never fixes Family Sharings single purchase account problem, you could theoretically share those services without turning on Purchase Sharing at all.
Apple can avoid the Purchase Sharing problem by adding it services as separate sharing categories, but thats no excuse not to fix it.
That doesnt let Apple off the hook entirely. The new Channels feature coming in iOS 12.3 lets you subscribe to pay TV streaming services like Showtime and HBO right within the TV app. Those work with Family Sharing, but youll have to enable Purchase Sharing for them to have access.
Apples new services are going to add a lot of value to Family Sharing. More users are likely to enable it, and even if Purchase Sharing isnt needed to share those services, theyll want to share App Store and iTunes purchases. Then theyll run into the payment roadblock. The time for Apple to address its completely inflexible payment structure is now, before the surge in Family Sharing brought on by subscription services.
Is Apple Music The Same As Itunes
Im confused. How is Apple Music different than iTunes? iTunes is a free app to manage your music library, music video playback, music purchases and device syncing. Apple Music is an ad-free music streaming subscription service that costs $10 per month, $15 a month for a family of six or $5 per month for students.

Whats Cool And Not About Family Sharing
Imagine all the coveted content we buy online these days! All the movies, TV shows, books, and music from iTunes, all the clever and fun apps from the App Store this quickly gets pretty expensive. But if you can share it with five more family members the expense may appear much more reasonable. Instead of the inconvenience of passing around your Apple ID Family Sharing lets you access others App Store and iTunes purchase histories safely and conveniently.
As super cool as Family Sharing is with monitoring kids activities online, the not so cool aspect of it arises when it comes to the adults in the group because theres no way for them to ever buy anything themselves without groups Organizer being charged for the purchase. To resolve the issue some family groups choose not to enable purchase sharing and only share subscriptions like Apple Music, Apple News+, Apple Arcade, and everybody pays for their own purchases.
The same way you enjoy Family Sharing for Apple services, you can subscribe to a collection of powerful handpicked apps for Mac. Setapp Family plan lets your search the platform for over 150 apps without even having to know them by name: simply type in what you need to do and Setapp will suggest apps that fit the task. Wouldnt you want to share that with your family?
Just to give you an idea of what to expect from Setapp, here are some popular apps from the collection.

What Happens When You Leave A Family Sharing Group
You can leave or be removed from a Family Sharing group at any time. Once you are no longer part of that group, you lose access to any apps, moves, music, books and services purchased by another family member. For example, if you installed an app that was purchased by someone else in the group, the app will remain installed on your device, but you won’t be able to use it until you pay for it yourself.
Your purchase history will stop being shared with the family group, as will your location, and the shared Reminders, Calendar, and Photos features will stop working. You can join another family group, or start your own, immediately after leaving a group.

With Screen Time, you can keep an eye on how much time your kids spend using apps, visiting websites, and on their devices overall. You can also name another family member as a parent/guardian so that youre always on the same page when it comes to your kids and their screen time.
