How to Release Music on iTunes, Spotify, Apple Music, etc..

Apple Music has finally caught up to top competitors with the addition of non-compressed, lossless audio. Lossless music streams top out at 24-bit/48khz, while hi-res lossless streams top out at 24-bit/192kHz. With hi-res lossless audio, Apple Music now matches Amazon Music Unlimited, Primephonic, Qobuz, and Tidal’s Hi-Res Audio offerings. The streams support Spatial Audio with support for the excellent, immersive Dolby Atmos.

Apple Music supports a range of devices, but lossless audio is only currently available on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV 4K, and Android devices. The web player doesn’t support lossless audio, and iTunes hasn’t been updated for it, either. As a result, Windows PC users can’t access lossless audio at all. In addition, only a fraction of the Apple Music catalog supports hi-res lossless streams.

Still, we welcome this enhanced sound quality. We loaded up Balencies by Chikawhich is not only lossless, but also an Apple Digital Master for enhanced qualityand loved the clear separation between the choir samples and that bumpin’ bass line. We even found the Castlevania Dracula Xvideo game soundtrack in lossless quality every instrument sounded great, from Bloody Tears‘ pipe organ to Vampire Killer‘s smooth violins.

How Do You Navigate Apple Music

Once you download the Apple Music app and sign up, you will go through a music-tailoring process, which will ask you to select music genres you like and dislike, followed by artists you like and dislike. After you’ve moved through the simple process, you’ll find yourself on the For You screen.

There is a menu bar at the bottom of the screen for navigation and to which section of Apple Music you are in. There are five screen tabs in the menu bar:

Listen Now: A curated selection of music you should enjoy. It’s based on what you said you like, your listening habits, and the music you own. The first time you launch Apple Music, you’ll be able to specify what genres and artists you like. From that point, you’ll see the screen loaded with suggestions like genre-specific playlists, albums, guest playlists made by artists, etc. Recently Played also appears here, as well as playlists based on other playlists you’ve already listened to.

Browse: An editorially-curated selection of music from across the service. This section also highlights hot playlists, tracks and albums, top songs, new releases, etc. You can view these new curations by genre too. You’ll also find Artist Interviews, Daily Top 100 lists, City Charts and Music By Mood, among others.

Putting The Needle To The Groove

Apple Music’s layout features large, eye-catching icons that invite you to explore the service, be it via a browser or an app. Honestly, that’s something that you’re likely to do anyway, as the interface features a menu structure that helps you quickly find content. Library, Playlists, Artists, Albums, and Songs are all prominent and easy to navigate.

When you sign into the service for the first time, you’ll be asked to pick your favorite music genres and a few sample acts. This populates the Listen Now page for the first time, giving you top songs from those artists and genres, tailormade radio stations, and more. Alternatively, you can go to the Browse section to look at Apple’s featured playlists and albums. It’s here that the service highlights some of its Spatial Audio tracks , which is useful if you have the company’s AirPods Pro or other surround sound headset. Finally, the Radio tab includes Apple’s three radio stationsMusic 1, Music Hits, and Music Countryalongside the additional content available on the service. This includes third-party radio stations, podcast-style radio shows like Strombo and Elton John’s Rocket Hour, and artist video interviews.

How Do I Listen To Spatial Audio In Apple Music

Apple Music

It’s easy to try Dolby Atmos spatial audio in Apple Music.

If you open the app right now, you’ll see several playlists for various genres with songs created to support Dolby Atmos. But I recommend starting with the “Hits in Spatial Audio” playlist, which provides an audio example of stereo vs. Dolby Atmos.

As new tracks and albums roll out, you’ll see a little tag under each song that shows “Dolby Atmos” to let you know it supports the format.

Other Apple Music Features

All of the streaming services have differences, and with Apple Music, Apple has focused on human curation. While there are some algorithmically created playlists, a lot of the content highlighted on Apple Music is done by Apple Music editors.

Apple offers regularly updated personalized playlists in a “For You” tab, including a favorites mix, a chill mix, a friends mix, and a new music mix, along with other playlist options that are updated on a daily basis.

Apple Music also often has exclusive album releases, documentaries, and music videos that aren’t available on other platforms as a way to lure subscribers.

Beats 1, Apple Music’s 24/7 live radio station, is also one of the service’s unique features. It features songs curated by DJs along with a multitude of special shows, sometimes created by artists.

Mac Os X 106 Snow Leopard

Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard was released on August 28, 2009. Rather than delivering big changes to the appearance and end user functionality like the previous releases of Mac OS X, Snow Leopard focused on “under the hood” changes, increasing the performance, efficiency, and stability of the operating system. For most users, the most noticeable changes were: the disk space that the operating system frees up after a clean install compared to Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, a more responsive rewritten in , faster backups, more reliable and user-friendly disk ejects, a more powerful version of the Preview application, as well as a faster web browser. Snow Leopard only supported machines with Intel CPUs, required at least 1 GB of , and dropped default support for applications built for the architecture ” rel=”nofollow”> Rosetta could be installed as an additional component to retain support for PowerPC-only applications).

What Do I Need To Listen To Spatial Audio

You need an Apple Music trial or a subscription, which costs $4.99 a month for students, $9.99 a month for individuals or $14.99 a month for families up to six people.

You can listen through:

  • AirPods
  • AirPods Pro or AirPods Pro Max, with Spatial Audio turned on
  • BeatsX, Beats Solo3 Wireless, Beats Studio3, Powerbeats3 Wireless, Beats Flex, Powerbeats Pro or Beats Solo Pro
  • It also works through the built-in speakers on iPhones and iPads released in the last few years, except the iPhone SE, but I found it much more noticeable through headphones.

But you don’t actually need AirPods or Beats headphones. Dolby Atmos songs work on all headphones, you just need to turn on “Always On” in your iPhone or iPad settings first.

To do that:

  • Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
  • Choose Music.
  • Select “Dolby Atmos”
  • Change the setting to “Always On.”

If you’re listening from an Apple TV, you can listen to Dolby Atmos through speakers that support the format, or through the aforementioned AirPods and Beats headphones. To turn it on, go to Settings > Apps > Music and make sure Dolby Atmos is on “Automatic.” On a Mac, you’ll want to enable the setting to download in Dolby Atmos in the preferences menu of Apple Music.

What Is Lossless Audio Compression

Most audio compression techniques lose some amount of data contained in the original source file. Lossless compression is a form of compression that preserves all of the original data.

Apple has developed its own lossless audio compression technology called Apple Lossless Audio Codec . In addition to AAC, the entire Apple Music catalog is now also encoded using ALAC in resolutions ranging from 16-bit/44.1 kHz up to 24-bit/192 kHz.

While the difference between AAC and lossless audio is virtually indistinguishable, were offering Apple Music subscribers the option to access music in lossless audio compression.

Apple Music And Spotify Cost The Same

Both Spotify and Apple Music offer a free three-month trial period for their premium services, which normally cost $10 a month. It costs $5 for students, $15 for an Apple Music family plan or $16 for a Spotify family plan. You can stream any song from the catalog on demand, plus listen to songs offline.

Spotify is offering three months of its premium version free to new users until Sept. 30, 2021, while Apple Music is offering six months free for new users through Best Buy.

Spotify is the only one of the two music services with a free, ad-supported tier, so even if you don’t want to pay for the premium version you can still listen. The caveat is that many albums and playlists require you to listen in shuffle mode rather than sequential play and there’s a limit of six skips per hour.

Apple Music lets free users stream Beats1 Radio, or you can listen to songs from your iTunes library.

Spotify also offers a Premium Duo subscription for two users who live at the same address for $13 . And if you’re a student, you’ll get access to Hulu and Showtime as part of your Premium subscription.

Winner: Spotify

The free version of Spotify lets you listen to songs on demand, but many playlists and albums can only be listened to on shuffle.

What If You Miss New Music Notifications

Apple Music Gains Better Organization of Releases on ...

These alerts are a definite improvement, so long as Apple actually makes them useful by tracking all new releases from artists you like. But theres another way to get this information.

Go back to the Music app, and open up the For You tab again. Then, scroll all the way to the bottom, and youll find the New Releases section. Either swipe to see the most recent of these, or tap Show All to explore further. I was very happy to find a whole new album from Nicolas Jaar in mine.

The success of this feature all depends on how well Apple keeps up with the news. On the other hand, if you dont want these notifications, then this how-to serves as a perfectly good guide to switching them off.
