How To Group Multiple Amazon Echo Devices For Music
– Amazon’s Echo devices support multi-room audio, but you need to use the Alexa app to group them up.
This feature lets you play music across multiple Echo devices in your home at the same time. But there are caveats: the feature is only available in a few countries, and it only supports music, specifically, as well as certain devices and services.
Here’s what you need to know and how to set it up.
Your Second Echo Will Already Come Pre
When you order a second Amazon Echo and activate it with your Amazon account, many of your settings from your first Echo will automatically transfer over to your new Echo device. Thanks, Amazon!
Settings that can be transferred include your music settings, household profiles, Alexa Skills, smart home devices, Flash Briefing settings, and your calendar.
Household Profiles And Multiple Accounts
Within the Alexa app, you can add another Amazon user to your Household Profile. This is beneficial in several ways, first and foremost in that it gives that person access to their own content .
It’s also worth doing if you have an Amazon Prime account but the other person doesn’t, as adding them to the Household Profile allows them to take advantages of Prime benefits too. You can find out more about the benefits here and manage yours here.
You can also use this to choose who sets up the Echo devices and which account they are assigned to. You need to get the other people in the house to download the Alexa app and sign the terms of agreement, then once accounts are connected you can tell Alexa to switch between the profiles which is handy for managing content, placing orders and more.
What you can do with a profile, however, is ensure that an Echo Show on one side of the bed is customised to the person who sleeps closest to it, for example, showing their calendar details.

Setting Collective Timers And Alarms
Echo is the ideal smart device for setting timers and alarms for any purpose be it as a wake-up call or a reminder to get food out of the oven. But timers and alarms are specific to a single Echo device.
If you set an alarm for 5 AM in your bedrooms Echo, the alarm wont automatically sync to all your other devices. If you set an alarm for 15 minutes in your kitchens Echo, that alarm wont ring on your living room Echo device.
If you want to set a collective alarm, youll have to do so manually for all devices. This is a pretty intuitive feature because you dont want to wake up the whole house early in the morning, do you?

Can Alexa Play On Two Speakers At Once
Yes, Alexa can play music in two or more speakers simultaneously. However, you will need to have the Alexa app that allows you to place the speakers in the same audio group. Again, you cannot play non music content on multiple speakers at once.
The only challenge with this feature is that it is not available in some countries, on some speakers, and some services. If you are using Amazon Echo speakers, and you are in the U.S., you will not face any challenges connecting the speakers and playing audio from all of them at the same time.

Amazon is a little late to the whole-house audio party. Ecosystems like AirPlay and Sonos had them beat for a while, but Amazon has finally added the ability to play music on multiple Echos at once. Read on as we show you how to configure a whole-house system using your Echo speakers.
To get started with the whole-house setup, youll only need two or or more Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, or Echo Show speakers. Presently, the brand new whole-house audio functionality is only available for those three Amazon-produced speakersbut dont worry if you have a third-party Alexa device like the Eufy Genie. Amazon has software tools to help third-party speaker makers integrate their speakers into the Alexa whole-house setup. The tools are in development release at the moment, and by the end of the year there should be updates for non-Echo speakers available.

How To Play Music Across Multiple Amazon Echo Devices
Amazon has announced a new feature that lets you play music across multiple Amazon Echo devices in your home.
Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, and Echo Show smart speakers can now synchronize to play your favorite music from Amazon Music, TuneIn, iHeartRadio, and Pandora. Amazon says support for Spotify and Sirius XM is coming soon, but didnt give an exact date.
Connect Your Echo Device To Wi
Select the Echo device listed on the screen. The name should take the form of Echo-XXX, with the XXX represented by a series of three uppercase letters.
Unless youre still using a first-generation Echo device, the Alexa app searches for and connects to your Wi-Fi network. You may then see a screen prompting you to confirm your Wi-Fi network and type the password. Enter this information and then tap Connect. The Alexa app tells you that its connected to your network.
A message should then pop up indicating that your Echo device is connected, while Alexa tells you that the device is ready. To make sure Alexa is listening on your new device, ask a question or submit a request. Tap Continue. You must then choose a language for Alexa to use on your new device. Select the correct language and tap Continue.

What Speakers Support Echo Multi
When the feature launched a couple of years ago, it was only supported by a handful of the Amazon Echo range. However, now every Echo speaker is capable of getting hooked up. That means all the generations and variations of
- Amazon Echo
- Amazon Echo Studio
- Amazon Echo Link Amp and Echo Link
Youll notice that the Sonos One, which rocks Alexa, isnt listed here. As mentioned above, third-party speakers are yet to fully embrace Amazon’s multi-room push.
You can, if you wish, group Sonos speakers and use Alexa to control them, but it’s not the same.
But the situation is getting better. Marshall was one the first third-party brand to get involved, with its Uxbridge Voice, Acton II Voice and Stanmore II Voice speakers all playing nicely with Alexa multiroom and the Polk Command soundbar also plays nicely too.
And, at CES 2021 we saw three big launches of Alexa MRM compatible speakers and there has also been some other speakers announced this year that are compatible:
How To Control Multi

After you set up one or more groups, its time to have fun playing music in more than one room at a time. You can command Alexa to play music by saying Alexa, play music . In other words, you can say Alexa, play music downstairs.
Multi-room music works with all the usual Alexa commands as well. You can ask for specific artists, albums, specific songs, genres, and more. Here are some examples:
- “Alexa, play Moving Pictures by Rush downstairs.”
- “Alexa, play The White Stripes upstairs.”
- “Alexa, play blues everywhere.”

Bluetooth Configurations Are Independent
Speaking of music, if you prefer playing music from your phone and using your Echo as a Bluetooth speaker, its important to know that Bluetooth settings and configurations dont sync across multiple Echos.

How To Connect Echo Devices To The Same Wi
As all the Echo devices should be connected to the same Wi-Fi network, to name the multi-room music setup work, here is how you can do so if you are confused.
For this, you will need:
- A good Wi-Fi network
- Mobile device connected to the internet
- Your Echo devices are set up with the Alexa app
If the last condition is not fulfilled, first set up your Echo device. Here is how you can do so.
Give Alexa Some Space

If you’re setting up multiple Alexa devices throughout your home, you typically want to put them far enough apart so the wrong device doesn’t respond when you try to interact with your device. Bluetooth’s range is limited, but it can still communicate from one room to the next.
In my case, I have one Echo in our living room, a second Echo in our bedroom, and a third Echo in my office. Those rooms are far enough apart that I can call Alexa, and the right device responds. However, there are advantages to having more than one Echo in the same room, particularly if you want to listen to music or TV audio.
If the devices are in close proximity, you can always change the Wake word to distinguish one from the other. Besides Alexa, other wake words to use to get your Echo’s attention are Amazon, Echo, Computer, and Ziggy.

Does It Work With Non
No. Amazon’s multi-room music feature does not work with non-music content, skills or other things, but it will work with Audible books. We’ve only managed to get this to work from the Alexa app, but this could be something you do to have a book read to kids at bedtime in separate rooms.
