Who Is Garth Brooks Married To
Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood are basically the epitome of a perfect country couple. The happy couple had been collaborating for years before they finally tied the knot. Before they got together, Trisha Yearwood was involved in the Chris Gaines project, and she looks at it more fondly than her husband does.
In 2017, Yearwood revealed to the Edmonton Journal that the Chris Gaines album is probably my favorite Gath Brooks album ever. I love that record. See, it wasnt a total failure some people really enjoyed it. After all, it did sell an impressive $2 million copies.
Chris Gaines Did An Episode Of Vh1s Behind The Music
Back in the 1990s, if you were a rock star with a story to tell, you did so on VH1s Behind the Music. Apparently, this applied to all musicians, even if they werent technically a real person: Chris Gaines got his very own segment, and it was a juicy one!
Entitled Behind the Life of Chris Gaines, the episode somehow managed to make Gaines even more absurd. In just two minutes, he told us about the time he brought a chainsaw on tour. Billy Joel showed up for no reason other than to show the world that Gaines was his friend.
Support For Gay Rights
In a 1999 interview with George, Brooks said, “But if you’re in love, you’ve got to follow your heart and trust that God will explain to us why we sometimes fall in love with people of the same sex.” Lyrics to his song, “We Shall Be Free”, features the line, “When we’re free to love anyone we choose,” which has been interpreted as a reference to same-sex relationships. Brooks won a 1993 GLAAD Media Award for the song.
In 2000, Brooks appeared at the Equality Rocks benefit concert for gay rights. He sang a duet with openly gay singer George Michael.
Brooks’ half-sister, Betsy Smittle, who died in 2013, was a well-known musician releasing her own album Rough Around the Edges and part of Brooks’ band for some years. She also worked with the late country star Gus Hardin and other musicians in Tulsa. Smittle was a lesbian, and Brooks has credited her with some of the inspiration for his support for same-sex marriage.

3. His family encouraged his early talent.
Friday and Saturday nights at the house, Jerry played guitar, Jim played the harmonica, Mike played guitar, Betsy played guitar, and, of course, Dad played guitar, Brooks once told Playboy. Warren G Tried To Regulate Garth Brooks’ Logo
Here’s a beef that you probably never would have seen coming. In 1997, Garth Brooks and Warren G the G-funk star best known for his No. 2 hit collaboration with Nate Dogg, “Regulate” almost ended up facing each other in court over the tiniest of trademark disputes. According to MTV News, both performers had initially sued each other over the right to call the alphabet’s seventh letter in lowercase their own, with the rapper using it accompanied by the term “funk music,” and Brooks choosing to circle it. But by the following year, the unlikely rivals decided that they could share the “g.”
A spokesperson representing Brooks’ GB management firm, Karen Byrd, revealed in a statement how both parties came to a truce. “The symbol is a positive symbol to Warren’s community,” she stated. “It stands for youth who have risen above drugs and violence to go on and contribute something positive to society. They didn’t see the point over arguing over a positive symbol.”
Brooks then chimed in to state that he would try his best to live by Mr. G’s code: “Knowing how much the symbol ‘g’ means to Warren, I will strive to reach the standard that the ‘g’ represents to him and to his community.”

Austin Lucas Found Garth Brooks Guilty By Association
Sometimes an artist’s fan base can be responsible for instilling hatred against the object of their adoration. Austin Lucas, a prolific singer-songwriter whose sound encompasses everything from crust-punk and folk to bluegrass and country, certainly didn’t appreciate a certain section of Garth Brooks’ audience while growing up.
In a 2009 interview with PunkNews.org to promote his fifth studio effort, Somebody Loves You, the son of musician Bob Lucas, who wrote Grammy Award-winning songs for Alison Krauss, revealed that Brooks’ music used to always have negative connotations. While discussing how he developed a love of harder-edged music, Austin said, “Throughout the entire time, I would always listen to country. Before that, I didn’t really like it because I hated Garth Brooks. Every redneck that wanted to beat me up for listening to punk loved Garth Brooks.”
However, in an unlikely U-turn, Lucas went on to admit that he eventually felt very different toward the man in the hat. “Now, I appreciate his songwriting and I think he’s an amazing singer.” The Bloomington, Ind. native even admitted that he’s regularly mentioned in the same breath as the country artist he once despised. But thankfully, it appears as though he has little problem with such comparisons: “I don’t hear it but I know what an amazing songwriter he is and a beautiful singer.”
In Pieces And First World Tour
In 1993, Brooks, who had criticized music stores selling used CDs since it led to a loss in proper royalty payments, persuaded Capitol Records to not ship his 1993 album, In Pieces, to stores which engaged in this practice. This led to several antitrust lawsuits against the record label, ending with Capitol shipping the albums to the stores.
Despite the delay in shipping, In Pieces was another success, peaking at No. 1 on both the Billboard 200 and Top Country Albums charts, and selling a total of nearly 10 million copies. After a delay in its worldwide release, the album also peaked at No. 2 on the United Kingdom Albums Chart. That same year, “The Red Strokes” became Brooks’ first single to make the UK Singles Chart, reaching a high of No. 13 it was followed by “Standing Outside the Fire“, which reached No. 23. Previous albums No Fences, Ropin’ the Wind and The Chase also remained in the top 30 in the UK Albums Chart.
In 1994, Brooks paid homage to one of his musical influences, KISS, appearing on the tribute compilation, Kiss My Ass: Classic Kiss Regrooved, a collection of songs performed by popular artists from various genres. The unlikely collaboration of Brooks and KISS’ rendition of “Hard Luck Woman” was performed live on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and despite its hard-rock appeal, Brooks’ version appeared on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.

Garth Brooks Baseball Career
Despite only being in his thirties at the time, Brooks must have been having some sort of mid-life crisis during the Chris Gaines era. Creating an elaborate alter ego wasnt the only strange thing he did in 1999. Months before unveiling his inner rocker, the musician also tried to become a major league baseball player.
According to the Baseball-Reference, Brooks was a high school baseball player . Unfortunately, despite his incredible fame, it wasnt enough to get the aspiring athlete drafted by the San Diego Padres as a left fielder.
They Should Have Listened Harder
Unfortunately, the label passed, telling the guys that they simply didnt hear a hit song. But Eric Clapton did. He recorded the song for the soundtrack for the 1996 movie Phenomenon, and it became a huge success topping music charts all over the world and earning three Grammy Awards! Things happen the way theyre supposed to happen, you know? Kennedy said.
Here is another fun Chris Gaines connection: Kenneth Babyface Edmonds produced the track Change the World for Eric Clapton. The singer, songwriter, and producer was supposed to be an executive producer on The Lamb, the Chris Gaines movie that never happened.

At Least It Was For A Good Cause
It was mostly a stunt for a good cause. Instead of a baseball salary, the Padres donated $200,000 to one of Garth Brooks charities. The facts remain: Garth Brooks legitimately went on the field as an official member of the Padres minor league system.
He also legitimately stunk! Going 1-for-22, Brooks was mostly used as a pinch hitter and runner his sports venture may have been less successful than the Chris Gaines experiment. To be fair, he probably didnt actually think he would make the team, but this is the same guy who put on a wig and eyeliner to become a rockstar. Who knows what he was he was really thinking?

Chris Gainess Ridiculous Backstory
If were being honest, Its quite peculiar to try and release an album as a fictional character while also trying to star in a movie as the same made-up character. But Brooks wasnt finished there. He also gave us the strangest backstory of any musical alter ego, including Ziggy Stardust, who was literally an alien.
According to Wide Open Country, Chris Gaines ridiculous rock star biography starts off like this. Gaines was a rebellious teenager whose father never approved of his rock n roll dreams.

Shooter Jennings Gave Garth Brooks A Backhanded Compliment
Shooter Jennings appears to have inherited his legendary father, Waylon Jennings’, no-nonsense approach, as well as his musical talents. And the dominance of the bro-country scene seems to be a particular bugbear for the outlaw hero.
“Hey pretty boy in the baseball hat / You couldn’t hit country with a baseball bat,” Shooter sings on his 2011 single, “Outlaw You.” Two years later, the bearded singer-songwriter once again took aim at the more populist end of the country music spectrum in a chat with the Charleston City Paper. But this time around, he brought one of the genre’s most commercially successful acts into his argument.
In a slightly backhanded compliment, Shooter revealed that he disliked Garth Brooks’ music while growing up. However, he was so offended by the new wave of country-pop acts that suddenly the all-conquering star didn’t seem so bad. “Garth Brooks is as country as s**t,” Shooter explained. “Back then it was like, what the f**k is going on? This guy is terrible. This isn’t country music. I would take that any day now. That means the bar has been lowered so far that we’re like, please.” Noting that he “would listen to only Garth Brooks all day if that’s what could get,” the outspoken star went on to compare all of Brooks’ successors to the much-derided Nickelback. Ouch.

Garth Brooks has countless country hits: 19 number one songs and 36 in the Top 10, but according to Billboard, the singer never had a genuine pop hit. The closest was his 1998 track Its Your Song, which made it to No. 62 on the Billboard hot 100.
