If My Business Is Licensed With One Performing Rights Organization Do I Still Need To Get Licensed With The Others

If you’re looking to play a wider variety of popular music in your business, we highly suggest licensing with all the PROs. A music license with a performing rights organization only allows you to perform copyrighted music represented by that organization.

The music industry is quite complicated when it comes to licensing. Many songs often have multiple songwriters, composers, and publishers, each of which may belong to a different performing rights organization. Since the creators and owners of the songs are represented by different PROs, assuring that the music you choose to play in your business is legal can get tricky! This why we recommend playing it safe by getting blanket licenses that cover all the PROs.

For example, check out the PRO licensing affiliations of Earth Wind & Fires September.

September has songwriters and publishers represented by both ASCAP and BMI. More recently, pop and hip hop songs are increasing in the number of credited songwriters. There can commonly be over ten different songwriters, composers, and publishers!

To see each organization’s public music repertoire and properly assess which ones you should be licensed with, visit these repertoire listing pages:

Is It Legal To Play Purchased Itunes Music On My Ipod/ipad/iphone Cds Mp3s Or Digital Files For Background Music

It is common in our digital age to be confused as to whether we own our digital content.

When you pay to download music or even movies for that matter, you are essentially purchasing a license you are leasing the content. Furthermore, you may only play this music in a non-commercial setting. You can listen to the songs to yourself as much as you like, but it is illegal to play in public.

Playing the downloaded music in your business, however, would violate copyright law because the act is now considered a public performance. You must license music for commercial use. Public performances require a Public Performance License from performing rights organizations .

Apple Music And Spotify Cost The Same

Both Spotify and Apple Music offer a free three-month trial period for their premium services, which normally cost $10 a month. It costs $5 for students, $15 for an Apple Music family plan or $16 for a Spotify family plan. You can stream any song from the catalog on demand, plus listen to songs offline.

Spotify is offering three months of its premium version free to new users until Sept. 30, 2021, while Apple Music is offering six months free for new users through Best Buy.

Spotify is the only one of the two music services with a free, ad-supported tier, so even if you don’t want to pay for the premium version you can still listen. The caveat is that many albums and playlists require you to listen in shuffle mode rather than sequential play and there’s a limit of six skips per hour.

Apple Music lets free users stream Beats1 Radio, or you can listen to songs from your iTunes library.

Spotify also offers a Premium Duo subscription for two users who live at the same address for $13 . And if you’re a student, you’ll get access to Hulu and Showtime as part of your Premium subscription.

The free version of Spotify lets you listen to songs on demand, but many playlists and albums can only be listened to on shuffle.

Does Apple Music Or Spotify Have Better Streaming Quality

    Pi Music Player for PC

Spotify uses the Ogg Vorbis format or AAC. On mobile you can choose what bit rate to stream, in increments up to 320Kbps, which is handy especially if you’re worried about using up too much mobile data. If you listen on Spotify’s web player, it streams in AAC at 128Kbps for free users or 256Kbps for premium.

Apple Music streams 256Kbps AAC files and now has lossless and spatial audio on select songs. Users will need to opt-in to lossless audio by going to Settings, then Music, then Audio Quality on the iPhone. Spotify will soon add a HiFi subscription for lossless audio later in 2021. To find out more about bit rate and audio quality, read this in-depth comparison of sound quality between Apple Music and Spotify.

You can also adjust the equalizer in both to suit your preferences, although you’ll find Apple Music’s EQ outside of the app in the Settings app.

Apple Music Turned My Explicit Music To Clean

jonmx said:This solved the issue for me -I had to first enable the “Restrict Music with Explicit Content” first . Waited a few minutes, then I went back and then disabled it . By doing that I was able to get explicit versions on my desktop. Then I went to my iPhone to see if it updated on Apple Music there. Initially it was still pulling up the clean versions, but after a few minutes and searches it started showing the explicit versions. Now I’m seeing “Explicit” next to song titles, like this J.Cole one for example. What’s weird is that some albums are still showing censored titles like Pantera’s “Yesterday Don’t Me S**t”, but the version that plays is the actually explicit version.

newyorksole said:Has anyone else had this issue? Music that I’ve imported into my computer from CDs and music that I’ve downloaded from blogs for the most part play as “Clean” from my iPhone. It seems like if there is music I have on my iPhone that wasn’t purchased from iTunes, but is in Apple’s catalogue, it turns it into the clean version. This is very frustrating because I’ll be playing music in the car or at a party and it just kills the vibe.Any ideas?

DeepIn2U said:Excellent point. I just dont understand how these kids manage with streaming services screwing with content. I figured if Apple loved music theyd understand that an artists vision and art creating music is in the way they choose NOT for content providers and mainstream radio dictations.
