The Midi Keyboard Checklist
Some things to consider when purchasing a midi keyboard are:
- The Budget
Buy something that is within your budget but not the cheap crap that is out there. If you like, choose one of the midi keyboards I recommended, these are perfect for you.
- The Number of Keys
Experienced piano players enjoy keyboards in the 61 or 88 keys range but if you are like the rest of us, 25 or 49 keys will be sufficient. Dont buy something above 49 keys, you will likely waist money, even 25 keys will be enough for now
- Other Extra Functions
Knobs, faders, aftertouch, midi in, midi out, performance pads and weighted keys. These are all extras that you likely wont use that often at least not in the very beginning.
There is nothing wrong with choosing a keyboard without all the bells and whistles. That said, some of the models I recommend do come with some of these features. As you progress, you will probably want to try them out.
Choosing Studio Monitors And Headphones
Is it possible to make music using consumer-grade speakers and headphones?
Sure it is. BUT, its better to buy studio-grade monitors and headphones for monitoring your sound because they give you much better results. Studio-grade monitors/headphones are designed to have a flat response so that you can accurately hear what is going on in your music.
There are so many choices when it comes to monitors and headphones. Popular monitors for home studios include:
- KRK Rokit 5
- Yamaha HS5, HS7, and HS8
- JBL LSR305
For a more comprehensive look at studio monitors, you can read this post, which ought to help you make a decision on the set to buy.

Way : How To Download Music From Computer To Ipod With Itunes
When it comes to how to add music from computer to iPod, you guys may wonder how to do it with iTunes more often than not. Well, if your iPod is brand new, then it’s an alright method. This is because the data in your iPod will be wiped away by iTunes in the procedure of music transfer. Plus, iTunes is unable to cope music in FLAC and APE format.
Step 1. Import songs from computer to iTunes
- Install the downloaded iTunes on computer. Then launch it.
- Select “Add File to Library”/”Add Folder to Library” to move your songs to iTunes library.
Note: Assume your computer works with Windows Media Player, you should transfer music to iTunes library from the Player at first.
Step 2. Move music from iTunes to iPod
- Link your iPod to this computer via a USB cable, and wait for the automatic detection done by iTunes.
- If you need to migrate all your songs, simply mark “Entire music library” option.
- Press “Apply” to start moving music from iTunes to iPod.
Provided you lose some songs you like from the device unwittingly, just restore deleted music from iPod touch/shuffle with ease.
Adding Automation To Your Track
Ever wondered how producers get their tracks to gradually sound like theyre being submerged in water or played from a gramophone?
The secret is automation.
Automating various parameters and effects in the song can introduce some interesting results. And the good news is thathe most popular DAWs allow you to draw out automation envelopes.
Practically anything which has a knob can be automated. This includes volume, pitch, panning, EQ, and wet effects knobs.
For example, you can automate the volume of a pad or lead synth to slowly increase as the song begins, so as to create a building effect.
Another example is to automate a low pass filter on the lead synth in various parts of the track. This can help to bring out or take away the energy of the track.
Basically, automation can help bring your track to life and add some variety and movement. Butou should avoid falling into the trap of automating every single element in the track. The song may end up being overproduced, which is a big no-no.
Do I Need Speakers For Making Music
Speakers are essential for every music producer. But for now, just use your laptops built-in speakers or anything else that you have readily available.
That said, the quality of your laptop speakers probably wont be that great, however, dont get discouraged by the bad sound. Yes, most laptop speakers and small computer speakers deliver poor audio quality, but for now, its all we need.
Lets now transition to the tools and gear you could acquire.
Add Music To A Video Using A Built

Best Libraries With Multiple Instruments
When you are starting out to make music the best plugin you can get is one that has tons of instruments inside it.
From orchestral strings to ethnic drums and even synth sounds, in these libraries, you can find everything you might need for your song.
There are some differences between each of the libraries, and some are better for some music genres.
For example, some of the music libraries only include high-quality orchestral sounds and can be quite expensive.
But if you are composing film-score music or classical an orchestral library will be worth it in the long run.
One of the things that make those libraries have higher quality apart from the sound, is the level of articulations.
Articulations are the way an instrument is played, for example, a violin that can be plucked, played gently, or with the bow crossing fast.
And also the level of velocity which is the strength applied to the instrument on each note.
In sample libraries that include more instruments apart from orchestral, like band instruments, synth sampled sounds, ethnic instruments, etc, the level of articulations and velocity is usually lower as well as the sound quality.
For starting out they are a great tool, but to get closer to a real instrument sound performed by a musician you will need sampled libraries of a single instrument.
Still, these libraries can be pretty useful when you dont find a specific instrument like a metal drum for example.

The Limitation Of Using A Qwerty Keyboard To Make Music
- Using your computers QWERTY keyboard comes with some limitations.
- The most important limitation is that computer keyboards are not velocity-sensitive, meaning that everything you play will have the same dynamic.
The difference in dynamics is what gives emotion in music. Loud played notes create different emotions than soft, played notes.
- If you use your computers keyboard to write music, you will likely need to go inside the DAW and manually adjust the velocity of each note you played.
- This is a fairly easy task to do! There are a ton of videos online that show you how to do use a DAW. Just type in Google how to change the velocity in XX .
Come Up With Chords And Melody
Now that we have a groovy beat baby, we can begin to add some chords and a melody. Chords usually consist of 3 or more notes played at once. Future bass music can have really full chords of more than 10 notes playing at once! But for this song, we will keep it simple with 3 or 4 notes.
Tip: I find it easier to come up with a melody when Ihave my chords and beat down. I usuallyend up coming up with 3 or 4 melodies and then pick the strongest one. The other ones can still be used later in thetrack.

Cymatics Vs Vengeance Vs Loopmasters
All of the above options are great, and Ive used them all over the years!
But if I had to choose between Cymatics Vengeance and Loopmasters I would go for Vengeance.
They may be a bit more expensive, but the samples Vengeance offers are of very high quality and suit my style of production. That said, I would recommend you try all three and decide for yourself.

Choosing A Computer And Operating System
Your computer and its operating system play a huge role in how you make music.
Audio production software uses a lot of computing power, so its best to get yourself a laptop or desktop computer with at least a Core i5 processor, a minimum of 8GB RAM and a solid-state drive.
The best software is mostly available on Windows and Mac OS X, so Id recommend getting a computer running one of those operating systems.
If you prefer, you can use Linux OS. There are distributions of Linux which concentrate on multimedia creation such as Ubuntu Studio and AVLinux. Just be prepared to spend more time getting things to work if you decide to use Linux because many of its music creation tools are not as polished as those on Mac OSX and Windows.

But Why Is Splice Sounds So Good
Last but not least we have Splice Sounds.
Splice is a unique company. They offer millions of samples for a monthly subscription. I believe this is the best bang for your buck since you can access their site for about $8 or $9 per month and get 300 samples.
- The difference between Splice and the rest is that with Splice, you dont have to buy the whole sample pack instead, you can browse and pick and chose the sounds you like.
- I love this option because which I often see is that just a few of most sample packs sounds are really great. With Splice I buy only the samples I need for my projects.
In the past, before I knew about Splice, I used to buy whole sample packs just to get that one sound I was after now these days are long gone. A big thank you to Splice!
