Open Apple Loops By Clicking On The Loops Icon On The Right
Apple Loops are organized pretty well by instrument, genre, and descriptors, so you can move through quite a few loops quickly. If you want a piano loop, for example, you just have to click on the Instrument category, and thatll give you the ability to choose whatever instrument you want.
The same thing goes for the genre and descriptor categories. The loops are also organized by the tempo and key signature as well so you know what youre working with, and all of them are adjustable by their tempo and key as well, which is nice.

Use An Arpeggiator To Add Additional Effects
This part is optional as well because truthfully, a synth or an arpeggiator counts as an instrument, but you may want to add more sounds to the track while using my arpeggiator guide as a reference to fill it out and make it sound good.
Its really not that hard, however. Its just a matter of choosing one that sounds good to your ears, and then hitting a note or two on the Musical Typing or MIDI Keyboard thats in key with the song.
Starting A New Project And The Main Window
When you start up GarageBand, you’ll be asked to create a new project .
In this tutorial, we’ll be using the Empty Project option. I encourage you to check out the other options, though, as they’re great for learning how to work with GarageBand’s tools.
After clicking Choose, you’ll get to the main GarageBand window. You’ll also be asked to add a new track. For now, just click Software Instrument and Create. If you’re interested, here’s how to use the Drummer function.
Finally, you’ll see the main GarageBand window.
On the left, you’ll see the library, which lets you choose different instruments. The top-right panel is the workspace, where you’ll see the notes you’ve recorded and the different instrument tracks in your project. The bottom-right panel is the editor, where you can make tweaks to your tracks.
And floating above them all is the musical typing keyboard, where you can play notes directly from your Mac’s keyboard .
There are many other windows and panels that you’ll see throughout your GarageBand adventure, but these are the main ones you’ll be using.

Best answer for this question, how do I sell a sound?
How To Make The Primary Melody In An Aesthetic Song
For the melody, note the first part of the article where I explained the use of the Major 7th and Minor 7th chords. In the track that I created for this tutorial, I was all over those major 7th sounds, because I was going for more of the happy and dreamy sound, rather than the chilled out Dorian vibe. Truthfully, I used a C Major 9th Chord, but it kind of has the same type of vibe as the C Major 7th chord, with a bit of difference.
I also used somewhat of an arpeggiated effect, which, in simple terms, means that weve played each note of the chord separately . I used the same principle for the G Major 9th chord as well, however, I also included a descending line down the C Major scale which hits on every gridline just as a way of spicing it up a bit and making it sound cool.
A) Use the Same Chords and Add Them to a New Instrument Track
Once I created the primary melody using two simple chords, you now have a foundation from which to build something else. For example, you can take those exact same two chords and then load them up into a different instrument to fill out the rest of the track.
You really dont have to complicate it more than that. This is quite melodically simple, but the point of this is to just fill out the track a bit and get it to sound a bit more complete, so to speak. In this case, I actually used a C Major chord and an F Major chord, rather than a G Major chord like I used with the soft piano.
B) Adding Another Melody

Finding A Vocal Hook In Apple Loops
If, like many of us, youre not blessed with the voice of an angel, GarageBand has you covered there too.
Hit O to open the loop browser and check out some vocal lines. Just make sure they fit with the key of your song. You should be able to tell pretty quickly once you add them as new tracks.
A cool little tip to spice up your tracks is to open up the Editor and click Reverse Playback on a loop. You can also chop up and edit your loops, so its an important thing to learn how to cut in GarageBand.

Garageband Can Install Third
The ability to install third party plugins is perhaps one of the most overlooked features that people talk about when they criticize GarageBand. It seems like theyre unaware that its even possible to do this. In fact, they probably are and have never even tried it before. Its easy to get caught up in the world of plugins and gear, but if you find yourself needing an additional feature, you can almost always get it via a third-party plugin.
For example, Celemonys Melodyne 5 Editor is a great example of software that really fills in the gaps. Through Melodyne, you gain access to some of the many features , that perhaps another DAW would have by default.
If youve got money to burn, there really is no limit to what kind of tools you can add, including Melda Productions MCompleteBundle , in addition to Native InstrumentsKomplete 13 Ultimate from ZZounds . If you have the 2 aforementioned plugin bundles and Melodyne 5, you probably wont have to buy another external plugin ever again.
If you dont have any money , then websites like Plugins4Free and AudioPlugins4Free will probably be one of your favorite places to visit whenever you want something new. Explained simply, if Garage doesnt have what you need, you can probably just download it via a third-party plugin.

Load up a new software instrument, and browse the library for something you feel you can use.
If you have a MIDI controller connected, you can now use this to play in some bass-lines. Dont have one? Dont worry! GarageBand has a neat little way to use your computers keyboard to play software instruments.
Navigate up to Window at the top of your screen, and select Show Keyboard.
Now you can play your bass instrument from your keyboard, and add some low end to your song.
It can take a little bit to get used to this type of keyboard, and even after youve been using it for a while, youll still play some bum notes here and there.
Hit E to bring up the Editor and edit your MIDI information. You can make changes to timing, note length, velocity, and pitch, whatever your song needs.
