When Is Apple Music Coming To Amazon Echo

On last Friday, Amazon has just taken a bigger step forward and expanded the music selection on Alexa by announcing that Apple Music is coming to Amazon Echo smart speakers starting the week of December 17. That means Apple Music subscribers will be able to play Apple Music on Echo seamlessly with the Apple Music skill installed in the Alexa app.

Make Apple Music Alexa’s Default Music Service

To avoid having to say “…on Apple Music” each time you ask Alexa to play something, make Apple Music Alexa’s default music service by following these steps.

  • Launch the Amazon Alexa app on your iPhone or iPad.
  • Tap the menu icon in the upper left corner of the screen.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap Music under Alexa Preferences.
  • Tap Default Services under Account Settings.
  • Tap Apple Music.
  • While Apple Music can be controlled via Alexa, the feature is limited to Amazon’s own Echo devices at the current time. In the future, Amazon does plan to expand Apple Music availability to other Alexa-enabled third-party devices.

    How To Stream Itunes From Offline Storage

    You dont always need an internet connection to listen to your favorite iTunes. Say you still have plenty of purchased songs on some of your mobile devices or Mac, or PC. You can also use Alexa to play those iTunes.

    What do you need? A Bluetooth connection between your Echo speaker and the device where the songs are stored. Of course, some minor Alexa app configurations.

    Make sure both your devices are Bluetooth enabled by going to the Settings menu on your Mac or in Windows. From the menu, search for Bluetooth and ensure that its on.

    Get your phone and give Alexa the following command: Say Connect to a new Bluetooth device.

    Enable the Echo connection on your device when prompted.

    This allows you to play your iTunes from your other device and have the audio come out of the Echo speaker. Therefore, you wont be limited to hearing your favorite music in just one room. As long as the connection is stable enough of course.

    To restart your Echo device, unplug it from the power source and wait for about 10 to 20 seconds and then plug it back in.

    Next, force-quit the Alexa app on your phone and open it again. Try playing Apple Music again to see if it works.

    How To Play Apple Music On Alexa Using Bluetooth

    If you’re looking for a quick fix, use your Bluetooth to connect Alexa to your Apple device to play your music. You won’t be able to enjoy the 3D experience of spatial audio from Apple Music using Alexa, but you can still play your favorite artists.

    This will only be available for as long as you have your Bluetooth enabled and the two devices are connected. It’s more of a short-term solution than having the constant ability to play Apple Music from your Alexa device.

    Once installed, open the app, then drag and drop the converted Apple Music songs from your computer into the Upload selection in the right sidebar under Actions. Or you can select My Music at the top of the screen.

    Next, select Songs, and choose the Offline filter in the right navigation sidebar. Click the upload icon next to the music you want to upload. You can see uploaded music, and music that’s uploading by clicking the Uploaded filter in the left navigation sidebar.
