The next thing youll want to do, once you have a Musixmatch account and have been verified as an artist, is start adding lyrics for all your songs.

As you can see below, songs that dont yet have associated lyrics will have an Add Lyrics button. Click it!

Then its time to add your lyrics, or proofread any lyrics that mightve been entered by other Musixmatch users.

When you are transcribing your lyrics, follow these Musixmatch guidelines:

  • Transcribe all lyrics, even when a section is repeated
  • Transcribe the lyrical audio content only
  • Primary vocals are focus and secondary lyrics should be in parenthesis
  • Avoid comments like Intro,Chorus,Spoken, artist names and so on
  • Transcribe lyrics in their native scripts

How to format lyrics:

  • Always write contractions using apostrophe
  • Use a single hyphen or ellipsis if it is sung an unfinished word/sentence
  • Use standardized spellings for rap songs
  • Capitalize Proper names
  • Numbers as words except for content listed here

Musixmatch also recommends you NOT copy-and-paste lyrics from other websites or apps. Im not exactly sure why that matters, especially if you remove any peculiar formatting issues it might just be that theyre trying to avoid copyright issues as well as crazy formatting issues users dont fix before entering lyrics. Anyway, I copy-and-pasted from lyrics Id already entered into Bandcamp and it worked just fine.

Think of your captions like an ongoing story. Each caption should add value, contribute to your story in a meaningful way, and pull fans a little deeper into your world.

A good caption tells a story, starts a conversation, sparks discussion, or asks a question.

Your number one goal with your caption is to get your fans to leave a comment on your post . So a good caption tells a story, starts a conversation, sparks discussion, or asks a question. This is Instagram marketing for musicians 101.

Tell your fans a story or about an experience that relates to your music. Ask their opinions on something. Get them to vote on something . You can even use your captions to learn more about your fanbase. Ask them questions about their interests and what other bands they like and keep this information in your back pocket for future promotion ideas.

Its also important to note that Instagram does not let you add clickable links to the caption. Instead, send your fans to your Linktree link in your bio.

  • When To Post On Instagram As A Musician

If Instagram is definitely going to be a part of your social media and music marketing strategy, you need to determine the best times to post to get the most engagement.

There are plenty of studies out there that will tell you the statistically optimal time to post. But the truth is, every audience is different. So dont give too much weight to those numbers.

Base your posting times around the numbers you see in your own Instagram analytics. Youll be able to see what days and what times your audience is most active so you can plan on posting during those high-engagement times.

For example, you might see that your audience of mostly young adults or working millennials is active early morning, at 12 pm on their lunch break, and after 5 pm. A college-aged fanbase wont be as active early in the morning. Teens may be active early morning and later at night. A west coast-based audience will skew a little later than an east coast-based audience if youre in the US. And an Australia-based audience will be on a totally different timetable than a US-based audience. You see what I mean?

How To Add Music To An Instagram Story With And Without Stickers

In 2018, Instagram introduced the option to share music on Stories, allowing users to add their favorite songs to their photos and videos. This move allowed Instagrammers to access thousands of songs and gave them the ability to share their Stories in a new, musical way.

In this guide, well go over exactly how to add music to an Instagram Story, and well share how to troubleshoot issues that may be preventing you from doing so.

Do Instagram Ads Work For Music

How to add music to your Instagram story?

Yes, of course, they do. You can use ads to promote your music on Instagram to advertise a single or an album. If you have a pre-save campaign on Spotify, you can use the platform to drive traffic to that campaign. Moreover, Instagram ads for music help artists raise funds for their crowdfunding projects, gain awareness for a particular cause, increase engagement for a concert, a live stream, and so on.

The trickiest part about creating an Instagram ad is getting people to stop scrolling and look at it. You have eight seconds or less to capture their attention. Granted, this will be very hard to achieve if you’re using music videos as Instagram ads, especially when most people are watching videos with the sound turned off.

    Here are some solutions:

    • Do some hardcore editing, after which you should have a short clip of your original video.

    • Then add logos and captions to the snippet to get potential followers to pay attention.

    • One of the things that may work like a charm is to mention similar, more famous artists in the caption genre, along the lines of “for fans of”, and target an audience that listens to that particular artist. It will spark their curiosity, and they will be more likely to stop and give it a listen.

It’s best to run a successful Instagram ad campaign if you convert your profile into a business account. You will get all of the same features, plus some extra ones, like analytics. They will allow you to track how the audience responds to your content.

Why Do You Need A Music Distributor To Get Your Music On Instagram Stories

How To Get Your Own Music and Lyrics onto Instagram Stories (Facebook Too!)

Now that you know just how important it is to make your music available to the masses through Instagram stories, you might be scratching the top of your head thinking: but how do I actually get it there? Well, this is what we are here to help you out with.

For your music to be available, it has to be uploaded to Facebooks systems. Facebook owns Instagram after a controversial purchase in 2012 for $1 billion keeping the leadership of the company intact.

When the music feature on Instagram stories began, Facebook landed a deal with all of the major record labels in the world and some independent smaller ones as well. This is why you need a music distributor for your songs to appear on the list to be chosen and added to stories.

It is music distributors who land the deal with Facebook and upload the content of all the artists that work with them and then collect their royalties.

Since Facebook owns Instagram, every time your tunes get played on either platform your music distributor receives your money. This means that with the same deal, you can monetize all of the social media capabilities with your songs whether it is from your own Artist Page, stories, streaming or any other form.
