How Much Does Tiktok Pay
The exact amount will vary by distributor, and as noted in the quote above, it will fluctuate month to month. In 2020, it’s safe to say that the will be very small. Since TikTok videos are usually 15 seconds long, you can expect that the payments are significantly less than a Spotify stream. However, dont let this get you down, or think this is a reason not to invest in TikTok promotion – explained below.

Start Local Go Global
TikTok is great at providing localized content. You might start to notice this once youâve been using the app for a while, so why not harness the power of local content to engage new fans in your area?
Showcase your hometown and stick your own music in the background. Or if youâre heading out on tour, tag the locations as you arrive.
As weâve been saying throughout this guide, TikTok users respond well to authentic content that they can personally relate to. And where better to start then where they live?
When Will You Receive Tiktok Payments From My Distributor
TikTok reports revenue on a quarterly basis to the distributors, so you can expect to receive royalty reporting and payments after each quarterly report has been received and processed by your distributor. This of course means you will have to wait a few months to see how those TikTok views are translating to royalties…but be patient. They will come.

TikTok fame can be short-lived, and it doesnt help that the apps existence in the US has been up for debate. Challenges On The App
Now that your track is uploaded, its time to get people listening. The best way to do this is create a challenge for your track. There are two approaches for making your own challenge: DIY and Influencers.
The DIY route is just as it sounds, you create your own challenge video first and then ask your followers to do the challenge too! Dance, best costume, best skit, best dressed, most original, the possibilities are endless! If you pick winners for each category, you can give away a copy of your album, tickets to a show, or write a song just for them.
Influencers are in high demand on TikTok right now, but they are still at an affordable price with a great ROI. Prices are around half of what they are on Instagram, for reference. The perks of hiring an Influencer to make a challenge for you is that you are getting a professional to help you go viral. They know the app and what will make a video work or not. Make sure to give them full creative control and see the crazy cool things they create.
To find an influencer for your track, pop over to the trending page and see if any creators catch your eye. TikTok doesnt have a message system built into the app, so you can search them out on Instagram and send them a DM, or some people will have their email in their profile on TikTok.

Lesson : Engage In Tiktok Trends With Your Own Spin
TikToks algorithm is more likely to push content onto users FYP that they are searching for, meaning hashtags go a long way on TikTok. Partaking in challenges that are trending is an excellent way to land on potential fans FYP.
One of the biggest examples is Lil Nas Xs 2019 smash hit Old Town Road, where a user uploaded a 15-second snippet of the then unknown song to the platform and started the #YeeHawChallenge. People would drink Yee Yee juice and magically transform into Western attire. Millions of people were dressing up in cowboy hats and boots just to dance to the song. Old Town Road rose to popularity quickly and soon reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts. The song held the No. 1 spot for 19 consecutive weeks, still holding the record for the longest time leading the chart as a No. 1 single in Hot 100 history.
Take part in challenges that are trending, but be sure to put your own unique twist on them because you are competing with thousands of other users who are also doing the challenge. If theres an opportunity to use your music into the challenge, then even better!

The #fyp And Looking At The Algorithm
The main page users interact with on TikTok is the #FYP . Its fundamentally a flowing feed of algorithmically generated content, and the more a user engages with certain types of video, the intelligence of the app shines and will start to tailor certain content to the user’s interests. This feed is where popular songs become viral. Due to how simple it is to use another videos audio, dance challenges, lip syncing videos or duet/play along videos are incredibly easy to create and upload.
Mastering the #FYP is tricky as it follows a myriad of rules and algorithms, although here are few things to consider:

Playlist Push cut its teeth on Spotify playlists, once the most important battleground for growing your music. But that was before TikTok exploded, and Playlist Push started diversifying accordingly to help artists grow their careers on the short-form video app. Now that TikTok looks like its here to stay in the U.S., Playlist Push joined forces with Digital Music News to distill the best pro tips for making your music blow up on this fast-growing platform. Enjoy.
1. Nail the Sound Clip
Nailing the sound clip the 15-second to 60-second segment that plays when creators select a song is imperative. The majority of TikTok videos are 10-15 seconds in length , but distributors typically set songs sound clips as their first 15, 30, or 60 seconds by default.
This is the foremost impediment to promotional achievements on the service, as the sound clip should showcase the catchiest 15 seconds of the track at hand. The sound clips for Old Town Road, Supalonely, and Dreams, for instance, present the tracks most memorable elements.
You can customize your TikTok snippets through your distributor or by manually uploading a video.
2. Become an Active TikTok Creator
For musicians, being personally active on TikTok is an important component of building meaningful relationships with users and music fans.
Followers, in turn, can help you to launch campaigns and capitalize on trend-related opportunities.
3. Make a Point of Enjoying Content as a Fan
Using A Distribution Platform
TuneCore has outlined the ways in which TikTok streams can get you money. Its as simple as choosing it during your release upload.
They charge $9.99 per single upload, and $29.99 per album upload to TikTok but we have a special deal to share with you!
Symphonic has just announced that they have partnered with TikTok to start distribution on that platform!
When youre creating your release in Symphonic, there is a new feature titled Clip Start Time. This is where you will choose the section of your song that will be used as a TikTok sound.
The duration of the video sound will be 30 seconds long, so be sure to choose a section of your song that will work for the platform i.e. a clip that can be used to create a dance challenge, a comedic trend, or an acting trend. A lot of people use these sounds to make jokes with the lyrics, like this video.
Once youve done this, make sure you select TikTok for delivery. You can also adjust your Clip times with an edit and re-delivery. There is more information on that in this blog post from Symphonic.
CD Baby started distributing to TikTok in January of this year. They made it available for both new releases and previously released music.
For a new release, make sure you are opted in to music distribution to streaming platforms.
If your music has already been released through CD Baby, they automatically are releasing it to TikTok.

How Does Tiktok Work
First of all, lets go over the basics. TikTok is a short video-making app with 800 million active users across the globe. Users can upload up to 15 seconds of content per clip , or even longer if the video is not created natively. The app gives users a huge database of sounds and music, and a myriad of editing options that allows them to put their own creative touches on videos without getting too caught up in the process of production.
How To Get Your Music On Tiktok
There are two ways to get your music on TikTok: 1) using a distributor and 2) uploading a video.
Use a distributor
Most major distributors work with TikTok. If you have officially released a song, chances are itll be available on TikTok. If youre unsure, you can always check with your distributor.
This is the recommended way to get your music on TikTok. TikTok will have the rights to include your song in their library, and youll get royalties every time your song is used in a video .
Upload a video
If you havent officially released the song yet , you can simply upload a video that has your song in the background. You can change the sounds title to reflect your artist name and the song title by clicking on your profile picture in the bottom right corner. Note that you can only change a sounds title once.
Once again, this option is fine if your song hasnt been released yet. If you use it with a song thats been officially released, theres a chance that TikTok will flag your video for copyright infringement. Not to mention, other users wont be able to search for your song in the TikTok sounds library, and you wont be able to collect any royalties.
