Whats The Difference Between Amazon Music Unlimited And Prime Music
In the past, Amazons naming conventions for its streaming services were a bit confusing. Without rehashing everything, Amazon Music Unlimited HD and Ultra HD are Amazons answer to high-resolution streaming services with millions lossless songs, and its library is only expanding. These used to be called Amazon Music HD and were a separate service, but now HD and Ultra HD songs come as a part of Unlimited at no additional charge.
Amazon Music Unlimited provides 320kbps lossy streaming quality for over 50 million songs. This is the standard streaming quality used by Spotify and outperforms YouTube Musics 256kbps quality. Youre afforded all of the same functionality of Amazon Music Unlimited HD and Ultra HD the only difference is that streaming quality isnt ridiculously high . Prime Musics library is much smaller and provides access to around 2 million or so songs, and the selection rarely includes trendy hits.
Amazon Music Unlimited and Prime Music are all ad-free streaming services.
Pricing is vastly different across Amazon Musics services. Amazon does not make their pricing options clear and they make it very difficult to cancel your subscription, so weve put together a few tables to help you navigate through it all.

Don’t Be Fooled By Amazon Music Unlimited’s Price
Amazon has finally launched its long awaited stand-alone streaming music service and its called Amazon Music Unlimited. On the surface it has a number of interesting features that differentiate it from the other major streaming services, but one has to wonder whether potential users will find them compelling enough to subscribe.
Perhaps the services biggest feature is price. If youre already an Amazon Prime customer, Amazon Music Unlimited is available for just $7.99 per month or $79 per year, undercutting the norm of $9.99 per month charged by most other services. If youre not a Prime customer however, youll still be charged the customary $9.99 per month.
If you happen to own an Amazon Echo, Echo Dot or Amazon Tap device, the price is even lower at $3.99 per month, but music playback only works on that device. If you want to receive the full Amazon Music service on your phone, for instance, youll still need to pony up for the full Unlimited tier at either $7.99 monthly if youre a Prime member, or $9.99 if youre not.
Also On FORBES:
Thats why Amazon Music Unlimiteds $7.99 per month price point looks so inviting. Its a step in bringing that monthly fee more in line with the expectations of the greatest number of users.
The problem is that this price is really a mirage.

Amazon Music Unlimited Also Gets A Price Hike
– Following price increases for in the US, the cost of is going up, too.
Amazon has confirmed that the cost to Prime members will increase from $8 per month to $9.
A Single Device subscription, available to Echo speaker and Fire TV users, will increase from $4 to $5 per month.
Whether you are looking to use a VPN keep you secure online or geo-unlocked sites, we’ve got you covered from NordVPN, ExpressVPN, Surfshark and more
The cost to non-Prime members will remain the same at $10 per month, as will the Family Plan at $15 per month.
The price increase means that Prime subscribers are no longer getting a great discount, and it may make switching to another streaming service look more appealing.
Of course, there are plenty of benefits to using Music Unlimited, it’s one of the few services to offer lossless HD audio and spatial audio formats. It integrates well with the range of Echo speakers, too.
But with services like Tidal and Spotify now only costing a dollar more per month, and both offering a larger library and arguably better user interfaces. It’s easy to see users being tempted away.
For those less serious about their music listening, Amazon offers Prime Music as a free service to Prime members. However, it’s much more limiting, with only 2 million songs available and can only be streamed to one device at a time.

What Is Amazon Music Hd And Amazon Music Ultra Hd

Amazon now offers free access to HD streams across the main premium plans, without an extra cost. Amazon Music HD and Ultra HD, goes up against the likes of Apple Music and Tidal for lossless audio.
It offers highest-quality music streaming available on the market, with over 50 million songs in high definition alongside millions of others in ultra-high definition.

That crisp audio used to come at a higher price, Amazon’ previously charged $12.99 each month for Prime members for access to Amazon Music HD and $14.99 for non-members, or an extra $5 monthly for existing Amazon Music subscribers.
But these fees were slashed in mid-2021, following Apple’s decision to offer lossless music at no extra cost to its streaming users.
If you’re not sure whether audio that clear is something you’ve been missing out on, Amazon’s offers a 30-day free trial to help you decide. That should give you plenty of time to dip in and see what extra subtleties you can spot in some of your favourite tracks .
Guide:
If you’re also quite not clear on what HD audio even really means, we can catch you up a bit. Standard streaming audio is always compressed down for speed and reliability – to a bitrate of up to 320kbps, generally.
Amazon Music HD ups this bitrate to ‘CD-quality’ – around 850kbps – and has a bit depth of 16-bits and a sample rate of 44.1kHz.
There are currently more than 75 million HD tracks available and 7 million Ultra HD options.

If you want even higher-quality music streams, check out Amazon Music HD. It was originally a plan that cost an additional $5 per month, but following Apple’s announcement of support for Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos, that extra cost was removed. Now, all Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers can enjoy more than 90 million songs in HD quality and more than 7 million songs in Ultra HD quality . This measures up pretty well to Tidal’s HiFi plan, which is a hefty $19.99 per month, but also occasionally sports Master tracks . You’re getting similar quality for a solid $9.99 that’s half of Tidal’s price. Even better, if you’re an Amazon Prime member, you only pay $8.99 per month. It’s a fine deal.
For HD audio, you need a device and internet connection that supports it. Amazon recommends an 1.5Mbps or higher connection, and headphones or speakers that support a dynamic range . You’ll also need more than a standard Amazon Echo the company recommends the $199.99 , as well as hardware from Bose, Denon, Onkyo, and Polk.
You can only listen to Amazon Music HD via the Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows apps you cannot stream the high-quality music via a web browser. On the upside, the apps have quality indicators to show when you’re listening to an HD or Ultra HD track. You can read about the Ultra HD hardware requirements and general compatibility at .
Amazon Music Unlimited’s Podcasts And Video
As mentioned earlier, don’t expect much non-music content from Amazon Music Unlimited, aside from a handful of comedy specials . That said, Amazon Music Unlimited pulls a page from Spotify‘s playback by offering a robust podcast catalog.
Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers who love Code Switch, Dolly Parton’s America, or WTF With Marc Maron no longer need to venture elsewhere for those shows. Even better, Amazon Music Unlimited features exclusive, original podcasts hosted by notable celebrities, such as DJ Khaled, Becky G, Will Smith, and Dan Patrick. It’s Amazon Music Unlimited’s continuing move to stay in parity with the competition, especially in the highly competitive entertainment category.
We previously dinged Amazon Music Unlimited for lacking video, so its nice to see that Amazon added music videos to complement its audio offerings. Music videos are organized by genre and iconic artist categories. You get a rich selection, such as Classic Hip-Hop, 90s Pop Throwbacks, 80s Hits, and Classic Country, alongside collections from artists like Britney Spears.
