What Is Amazon Prime Video
Amazon Prime Video is a subscription video on demand service developed and operated by Amazon. Similar to Netflix, it allows you to stream an unlimited number of TV shows and movies from its content library for a monthly fee.
The service launched in the US back in 2006 under the name Amazon Unbox, but was renamed two years later to Amazon Prime Video. It has been available in Canada since late 2016.
The platform offers an appealing library of both TV shows and movies. Its collection is smaller than some of its competitors, but Prime Video compensates with quality original productions.
The service used to allow users to vote on which new shows they should order based on pilot episodes, a revolutionary approach that made the show creation process much more democratic. Viewers watched the pilots and gave Amazon feedback on which series they are interested in. Amazon would then choose which shows to pick up for additional episodes taking into account fan reactions.
Sadly, thats no longer the case. Moving forward, Amazon is reportedly focusing on more traditional metrics to gauge a shows viability.
Dont worry you can still look forward to watching plenty of exciting fresh content. The list includes a TV series based on The Lord of the Rings novels, an adaptation of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchetts beloved novel Good Omens and a fantasy series starring Cara Delevingne and Orlando Bloom titled Carnival Row.
Speakers And Voice Assistants
As an Apple Music subscriber, you can use Apple’s Siri voice assistant on your iOS devices as a personal DJ to control song playback, queue up songs, find song facts, add songs to your library, play your favorite playlists, or even play something new. Getting Amazon Music to work with Siri requires the use of Siri Shortcuts, and even then it isn’t guaranteed to work and it lacks many Siri skills exclusive to Apple Music.
If you own any of Amazon’s Echo speakers or an Amazon Fire TV, then you can tap into the company’s Alexa voice assistant, which offers many similar DJ skills as Siri does for Apple Music. All Amazon Music Unlimited subscription plans work on Amazon Echo and Fire TV devices. In the U.S. at least, Apple Music can also be set up to stream on Amazon Echo devices, but it’s not as seamless and you won’t get said Alexa skills.
On the other hand, Apple’s HomePod speaker is made to be used in conjunction with Apple Music. In fact, one of the main uses for Siri on HomePod is to control your Apple Music collection. There are Siri voice commands for accessing content like playlists, genres, moods, liking or disliking songs, playing more music based on something you’ve heard, starting a new radio station, and much more. None of these functions will work with an Amazon Music subscription you can stream audio to HomePod from a device running the Amazon Music app, but that’s it.
Mobile Desktop And Web Apps
The Apple Music catalog is accessed within the Music app, which has a clean white interface and comes pre-installed on every iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, and is available as a separate downloadable app on Android devices.
The app is organized into tabs to access your music library, browse the Apple Music catalog, and listen to radio stations, while a For You tab lets you check out suggestions based on your listening preferences.
Amazon’s Music app has a contrasting black interface and is also available on both iOS and Android. The Browse section is organized by category and showcases new releases, popular playlists, and song and artist recommendations, while the Recents tab displays music you’ve recently accessed and My Music is the home of your saved music, organized by category .
Any music you may have purchased from Amazon on other devices is also automatically available here. Tapping the Alexa icon lets you ask the assistant to play music, pause, play the next or previous song and many other options, while a Search icon also lives at the top right of the screen and in the navigation menu at the bottom to find music to listen to.

What Do Australian Prime Members Get
Amazon has brought the promise of free delivery for its Aussie Prime members, but its limited to domestic purchases only, and specifically those marked as “Prime eligible”. ;This is depicted as a ‘Prime tick mark’ beside the pricing information of a particular product, and can be offered on anything that’s sold and shipped directly by Amazon Australia or a third-party vendor. So, if you buy something that’s Prime eligible, you won’t be charged for delivery, no matter how little or how much your final order costs.
Not that if the “Prime eligible” label is not visible, speedy and/or free delivery is not an option even if you are a Prime member.;
However, if an order of locally sold goods is over $39, it automatically qualifies for Amazons free standard delivery policy, irrespective of whether the product you buy is Prime eligible or not, and whether you’re a Prime member or not.
Also worth noting is that, in Australia, Primes free delivery service isnt the ‘same day’ one that’s offered in the US. Locally, its a two-day delivery promise something that’s most likely due to Amazon having only two Australian fulfilment centres, one located in Melbourne, with the other in Sydney. Despite that, even the Australian East Coast doesn’t qualify for same-day delivery, but we’re hoping that might change to when Amazon expands is network of warehouses locally.

How Much Data Will Amazon Prime Video Use
Titles from Amazons library are available in formats ranging from standard quality to UHD and HDR. How much data youll use while streaming TV shows and movies will depend on the quality youre using to watch programming. The platform doesnt release official information about data usage.
However, we estimate that you will burn around 900MB per hour for SD playback, 2GB per hour for HD playback and around 5.8GB per hour of UHD content. As its generally the case with streaming, this can impact your data allowance, so we recommend a broadband plan with unlimited data if you plan to watch a series or a lot of movies.
On mobile, Amazon Prime Video allows users to download selected titles to watch later. That means you can download a TV episode when connected to Wi-Fi and watch it whenever you want without additional data charges.
When watching on a mobile network, keep in mind that the amount of data you use may incur extra charges from your mobile carrier. If you have a small monthly allowance, we suggest going to Settings in your Amazon Prime Video app and selecting the Wi-Fi only option, so you dont accidentally start streaming videos when on mobile data. Otherwise, streaming on data will burn on average 270MB/hour on Android and 1.3GB/hour on iOS.

The Price Change Undercuts Competing High
Amazon’s high-fidelity streaming service, , is now available to Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers at no extra cost, the company tells Billboard. Amazon Music HD previously cost $14.99 a month while Amazon Music Unlimited, its most popular service option, is $9.99 a month .
The move is a first in the music industry, where high-fidelity streaming options routinely cost $19.99 a month before Amazon Music HD arrived in September 2019, forcing competitors like Deezer and Qobuz to lower the price of their high-fidelity plans to $14.99. . Now Amazon is leading the way once again, effectively cutting the price of high-fidelity music in half within two years.
It’s something we’ve all we’ve been wanting to do for a long time, says Amazon Music vp Steve Boom. When we launched, we already broke the mold by taking a service that had been $19.99 — and really just for the audiophile at that price point — and brought it down to something that was much more mass-market at $14.99.
