Stream Albums In Groove From The Windows 10 Store
Groove may be Microsoft’s streaming service but it also sells albums and individual songs through the Windows 10 Store. You’ll find it all under the Music tab at the top and you can browse and then preview tracks right here in the Store.
If you find something you like, hit the “Play” button highlighted in the image above to be taken into the Groove app to carry on listening. If you want to add it to your collection and/or playlists, follow the steps listed in point two.
Original Music Covers And Remixes
Of course, you can play original music youve created on live streams. But what counts as original? A cover is a version of another song that doesnt use any elements from the original song. You can use covers youve created entirely yourself, but you would still have to pay royalties to the owner of the original song. This type of license would be a mechanical or cover license.
A remix is a modified version of an existing song. If you download a song and edit it on your computer, youve created a remix, not a cover. To use a remix legally, you have to negotiate directly with the copyright holder for licensing. If you create a remix or cover without permission from the copyright holder, its a bootleg copy, and its illegal.

Which Music Streaming App Is Best
There are plenty of ways to stream music for free online, but if I could only choose one music streaming app to use, I would probably go with Spotify for its massive library of music and beautiful-yet-practical interface, but I’d also greatly miss all of the other apps.
Do pay special attention to YouTube Music. The concept is wonderful, and if it’s this good at launch, one can only imagine how much better it will be given another year or two of serious development.
And whatever you do, make sure you use this awesome smartphone trick when you’re playing music on your phone but need a bit more volume than your device can handle.

Audioquest Dragonfly Black Dac
If you want to stream high resolution music on your phone, tablet, or computer, I recommend the Dragonfly Black DAC from AudioQuest. Its about the size of a flash drive, and plugs directly into your device via USB. If youre using a computer, you wont need any other accessories to use it.
If you want to connect it to an iPhone, youll need this adapter if you want to plug it into a newer Android phone, youll need this adapter. Once its connected, go to your devices sound settings, and make sure the Dragonfly Black has been identified. In my experience, this has happened automatically, unless a pair of Bluetooth headphones were connected to the device at the same time.
When everything looks good, just plug your headphones into the audio out jack on the bottom of the Dragonfly DAC and hit play. Im recommending this DAC because of its small size and ease of use, but it does have one limitation: it can only play digital files with a sampling rate of up to 96kHz.
High resolution streaming services will automatically downsample their files to the highest resolution your DAC supports. If you want to sacrifice some portability and power efficiency for 192Kz support, I recommend the Fulla 3 from Schiit audio.

Best Music Streaming Apps For Iphone In 2021
For years music streaming services have dominated the scene. Some let you listen for free, others charge a premium price. Some, both. A major factor in choosing a music streaming service is the available content. We’ve got a list of the best music streaming services for the iPhone and why each one matters.
Siriusxm Select And Siriusxm Premier
Price: SiriusXM is best known for its satellite radio service for cars, but it also has cheaper packages that let users listen through an app or a web browser.
The packages SiriusXM offers change so frequently that it isnt worth keeping track of the specifics. For around $11 per month you can get a subscription that will let you listen on your phone, with access to hundreds of channels, including music, comedy, sports, talk radio, on-demand shows, and ad-free music with skippable tracks. Sometimes that price gets you access to the Howard Stern channels , but sometimes you need to pay more for that.
Theres also an extra charge if you want to stream directly to a car radio . Last we checked, that cost a total of $18 per month.
There are free trials, discounted rates for the first year, and family plans. If youre the kind of person who doesnt mind bargaining, haggling with a customer service rep may be the way to get the best pricejust make sure you dont get roped in to a plan with hidden fees and shifting costs.
Who its best for: People who like terrestrial radio stations but want more options and a commercial-free experience with the option of skipping tracks. SiriusXM is also the only game in town for Howard Stern fans.
As described above, SirusXM purchased Pandora, and the two services now share some features and content free of charge. See their help page for details.

What Is A Web Radio
Web radio or internet radio is a radio program that offers you an internet-based service. You can listen to this service online via a stream, for example on your computer or smartphone. In contrast to a conventional AM/FM station, you receive a web radio station online. Therefore, an internet connection is indispensable. In addition to their AM/FM offerings, most radio stations also have a web stream so that they can be reached beyond their frequency-bound broadcast area.In the last few years, the online programs have grown enormously and offer a whole new radio experience. Many web-only radios, which can only be received online, are devoted to a very specific music genre and do not interrupt their programs with advertising or entertainment content. The variety of web radios is almost infinite and offers an extraordinarily varied selection of the most diverse genres, programs and international stations. All accessible with just a single click.
Sending Audio To Your Computer
Once youve picked out the right microphone for your needs, its time to send audio to the device youre using to post the live stream.
To do this youll need a sound card or audio interface.
If you dont already have one theres plenty of great options, Focusrite offers quality affordable options that are used by many artists.
Just make sure you pick an interface with enough inputs to handle microphone inputs and the inputs from your instruments.
You may have to dive into your live streams settings to make sure audio sent from your sound card is going to your computer or phone.
Once your audio interface is set up and your live stream is receiving audio from your gear or your microphone, dont forget to check for clipping and ambient noise in your mix.
Hot tip:if youre using a phone to film your live stream youll need an 1/8th inch cable with a sound card to send audio from your mixer to your phone.

Its Easier Than You Think
You like music. Maybe youve been downloading music for years. You might have even gone through the arduous process of digitizing your CDs and cassette tapes. They now reside on your computer. Youd like to stream them. But how?
The Yamaha MusicCast Controller app doesnt discriminate between streaming sources. Whether its one of the nations most popular streaming services or music you have stored on your device or on a local network, you can share it with every room of your house. Want to know how? Read on.
The Server Button
The purpose of the Server button in MusicCast Controller is to allow you to access music files that you have downloaded or backed up. Those files are usually located in a particular folder on a hard drive either one inside your computer or an external storage device like a thumb drive. With MusicCast, you can play those files back in any or all rooms in your multi-room home audio system.
Dont touch that Server button just yet, though! Before MusicCast can see this content, you need to activate a feature on your computer called media file sharing.
Media File Sharing
If that feature is not available on your router, you can add a dedicated NAS server to your network. Heres how to activate media sharing on a PC thats running Windows 10:
1. First, youll need to turn on the sharing function of your PC. From the search bar, type Control Panel:
2. From the icon view, navigate to the Network and Sharing Center:
4. Click on All Networks:

Easy Ways To Stream Your Music Online
A while back, Damien published a great article on How To Install And Setup Jinzora Media Server In Ubuntu. Jinzora is a great and powerful way to stream your music over the internet, but getting it set up can be somewhat complicated. Today, I thought Id cover some of the other options that are a little easier to set up, and may work on other platforms.
Music Catalog Sizes Compared
The number of songs offered by a music service used to be one of the main differentiators, but all of the major ones now have over 60 million tracks. However, depending on your favored genre, some of them have a more robust catalog that include many under-the-radar, indie or hip-hop artists. If you’re musically inclined, constantly on the hunt for your favorite new band, a streaming service like Spotify or Tidal may be more up your alley. Users who are less ambitious about expanding their musical taste will be satisfied with the smaller catalogs Amazon Music Unlimited or Pandora offer. Apple Music is somewhere in the middle, offering a healthy mix of mainstream tunes and underground unknowns.

Promoting Your Live Stream
There is probably nothing worse than playing a concert and nobody shows up, right? The same is true for concerts that you live stream. As much as we like to be spontaneous, it necessarily doesnt work that well for concert live streaming. Therefore, the promotion of your upcoming convert is so important as you want to build momentum upfront so that people show up.
Get creative to get people to watch it! Maybe you make it a concert where your fans can request songs that they want to hear, or you can answer questions from your live audience. Make it a special event and, the more people show up for the event, the more likely it is that you can make money from live streaming. You can earn some donations, tips, or even can sell concert tickets to your event. Promoting your live stream could look like this:
- Create a teaser for your live stream. This could an email, a post on social media, or even a little trailer, so people can experience what the concert would feel and be like
- 48 hours before you go live share your streaming link to your audience
- On your website, embed the persistent streaming link and send the URL out to blogs and your audience
- Invite any artists that you are friends with on the live stream and have them play with you. That way you share the respective other audience.

How Do You Stream Music Using A Mobile Device And Chromecast Itself
The YouTube app lets you stream music using a Chromecast device mostly hassle-free.
Many of your mobile devices can stream music themselves, too, if they have the YouTube app installed. It is basically the same process as casting movies or TV from a playback device:
Google used to sell a standalone audio streaming device called Chromecast Audio. It used a 3.5mm jack to connect to the input ports of many kinds of devices including affordable soundbars, but Google discontinued it in 2019. If you have one, Google still offers a help page to assist you in setting it up, however.
Chromecast makes streaming music through a TV or other entertainment system from most mobile devices and desktop computers easy. After you follow a few quick steps, you can experience hours of musical bliss.

Donations And Fan Subscriptions
With each passing year, online donations become a more and more reliable source of income for live streamers. Partly, it is due to the growth of the live streaming market. Regardless, people are willing to tip the artist online. However, thats not the only way a live streamer can make money. Paid fan subscriptions can also add to your income.
Choosing The Right Microphone For The Job
Just like any other time you record audio, youll get the best results for live streaming if you keep good headroom as you record.
The solution is gain staging. If you need to brush up on headroom and gain staging, check out our guide to setting levels correctly.
As a general rule, keep the peaks of your waveforms hitting around -9 dBFS and the body of your sounds around -18 dBFS.
Pro streamers often use gear thats common in the broadcast industry, especially if theyre recording spoken word.
Some of the most popular choices for this are dynamics like the Shure SM7B or EV RE20.

Hot tip: If youre using a dynamic mic like the Shure SM7B make sure to add lots of gain from your microphone preamp.

The Benefits Of Choosing Streaming Music
Quite simply, streaming music is the best thing to happen since the invention of the electric guitar, says Eric Alper, who has worked for artists including Ringo Starr and Ray Charles during his 27-year career as a music publicist. His Twitter account has more than 768,000 followers, and Billboard magazine profiled him in June for his social media skills.
Instead of taking a bus to a record store to buy a new album, if there was even a copy left, and then going home to play it, youve now got access to up to 75 million songs for one low price, without even leaving your home, Alper says.
Andy Greene, a senior writer for Rolling Stone, mirrors Alpers sentiment: Convenience is the main benefit to streaming music services. If someone told me something like this would exist, even just a few years ago, I would have thought it was science fiction to play virtually any song you want, for so cheap, or even for free, with ads, on many services.
Streaming music is magical and an incredible gift for fans, Greene says.
