Hoboken To Add 25 New Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations In Partnership With Volta
Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla and the City of Hoboken today announced the City will expand on-street electric vehicle charging infrastructure to more than double the amount of publicly accessible charging ports city-wide. Through a new partnership with Volta Inc., an industry-leading EV charging and media network, the City will install at least 25 public EV charging stations on City streets, which includes eight DC fast chargers, all at no cost to the taxpayer. DC fast chargers can charge a vehicle’s battery from 20 percent to 80 percent in approximately 30 minutes. A level 2 charger will add about 20 to 25 miles of range per hour.
Once installed, nearly all residents will be within a 5-minute walk of a public EV charger as demand for EV charging infrastructure is surging in Hoboken. Vehicle registration records show that there are currently over 1,600 electric or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles registered to Hoboken residents, and this number is predicted to triple by 2025.
âOver 80 percent of Americans live in urban areas, many of whom lack access to at-home EV charging. Public charging networks in densely populated areas are essential to moving away from fossil fuels and addressing climate change,â said John Stuckey, Vice President of Public Network Development at Volta. âWeâre pleased to partner with the vibrant City of Hoboken to provide this essential service, and to do so at no-cost to the City.â

A Mile Square Of Music: 1960 To 1970
We are honored to announce âA Mile Square of Music,â a documentary about how the mile square city of Hoboken helped shape an impactful era in music history, won a 2022 Telly Award. It was a pleasure for our Branding Shorts team to work with the City of Hoboken and Geri Fallo to produce this award-winning film. Special thanks goes to the talented musical performers and club owners who participated in this documentary.
The Telly Awards, established in 1979, showcases the best work of TV and video for all screens. The Tellys receive over 12,000 entries from all 50 states and five continents. Past winners include BET Networks, Comcast, ESPN, Fox, HBO, MLB, NBC, Ogilvy & Mather, The History Channel, Time Warner, and Viacom. Congrats to all who helped âA Mile Square of Musicâ documentary win this prestigious honor.
Hoboken has a colorful musical past. Composer Stephen Foster wrote âJeannie with the Light Brown Hairâ while living here in 1854. Itâs the birthplace of singers Frank Sinatra and Jimmy Roselli. Gerome Ragni and James Rado wrote the book and lyrics to the iconic Broadway musical Hair while living here in the 1960s. From the late 1970s thru the 1990s, it was home to the infamous, metro area rock venue Maxwellâs, spawning ground of a thriving indie music scene, as well as home to Bar/None Records. The stories are numerous and the music eclectic.
