Fascinated by Retallack’s findings, two other students went on to do their own test. Plants exposed to Haydn, Beethoven, Brahms, and Schubert grew towards and entwined themselves around the speakers. These experiments have been conducted both on open field cultures and greenhouse plants using various levels of sound pressure and frequencies. The research was coordinated by Reda HE Hassanien, Tian-Zhen HOU, Yu-Feng LI, and Bao-Ming LI, and findings were published in the Journal of Integrative Agriculture.
Sound waves of 100 dB and 1 kHz played for one hour at a distance of 0.2 meters :

Dr. Singh worked at Annamalai University as head of the Botany Department in 1962 when he decided to test the effect of music on plants.
He used balsam plants and initially chose classical music; later on, he tried out;raga music played on different instruments . He later repeated the experiment with local field crops using gramophones and loudspeakers.
The Scale Resonance Theory By Joel Sternheimer
This theory was given by the French physicist and musician Joel Sternheimer, the student of the famous physicist Louis De Broglie. He extended the De Broglie’s wave theory and found music in the vibration patterns of elementary particles and discovered how sound affects the protein biosynthesis in plants.
He found that the amino-acid emits a signal when it is being brought by its tRNA to be linked onto the ribosome. This signal or quantum wave called scaling links the scale of each amino-acid to the scale of processing protein.
When a wave is emitted from an amino-acid, the second slower wave arrives after a time twice as long, and a third one thrice as long, and so on. The periodic superposition of waves occurs when a chain of amino acids is formed.
The successive waves were converted into audible sound by transposing them into octaves in a synthesizer. These protein melodies create scale resonance in plants and animals.

The Effects Of Words On Plants
Just asking the plants to grow better increases their growth. After two months of talking, the weight of plants and fruits increased. But the effect of good and bad words was the same. The saying of prayers increased the wheat yield by 670 Kg/hectare. The height of plants increased 64% more by saying Gayatri Mantra for 5-10 minutes every day.

Many of the researchers who conducted these experiments, Singh and Retlack among them, concluded that plants exhibit an empathetic response to the music they were hearing. Through rigorous studies and lots of observation, she concluded that plants grew abundantly in classical music as compared to rock and roll. Strangely, when the genre of jazz was played, some plants leaned towards the speaker whereas some leaned away from it.
After further research, Retallack discerned that the genre of music did not have anything to do with the response; it was the kind of instruments used and their resonance that probably made the difference. Her book says that loud frequencies of music played havoc with the health of the plants, resulting in a very slow and stunted growth; even death in some cases.

It turns out that our indoor plants are a little more sensitive than we thought. While many of us are more worried about over-watering our frondy friends, it turns out the tunes were blasting at home could be having more of an impact on the growth and productivity of your plants than we think. In fact, if your plants seem to be dying for no apparent reason, it might be time to check your playlist.
In an interview with Pedestrian.tv, head researcher at Plant Life Balance, Dr Dominique Hes from the University of Melbourne, explained that plants enjoy the energy some music produces, and it can help a plant grow. In fact, she explained that:
- Plants thrive when they listen to music that sits between 115Hz and 250Hz, as the vibrations emitted by such music emulate similar sounds in nature.
- Plants dont like being exposed to music more than one to three hours per day.
- Jazz and classical music seems to be the music of choice for ultimate plant stimulation.
- Some sounds can make the stomata on plants stay open longer which means they take in more air and grow faster.
The theory that plants can listen is supported by a 2017 study conducted by the University of Western Australia, which found that plants have developed senses that allow them to detect and respond to sounds to find water.
That is, plants can sense sound vibrations from running water moving through pipes or soil, and will move their roots towards the sounds.
