About Apple Podcasts
Find Podcast Episodes In Your Library
How Does It Work
Apple Music is much easier to use now than it was when it first launched in 2015. If you are using an iOS or Mac device, you already have it installed. And its probably set as your default music app. If youre on Android you can from the Play Store, but on Windows youll have to stick to the old iTunes experience.
Once you have it installed, open it up and youll be greeted by four main sections: Library, For You, Browse, and Radio. Each one has tiles filled with content to listen to right away. On iOS, theres an extra search icon at the bottom right, whereas on Android its located in the upper part of the screen.
Library is fairly self-explanatory, and it contains your personal music library as well as artists and songs youve saved on the platform. This is also where youll find your saved and custom playlists.
The For You section is where youll go to discover new music. Apple Music analyzes what youve been listening to and liked/disliked, then recommends similar music using complex algorithms. Browse is another way to find new music, but it relies on Top 100 lists, new releases, and featured playlists rather than your listening history.

Apple Music Vs Spotify: Which Should You Choose
Apple Music and Spotify are the dominant players in the streaming music industry. Spotify just announced they have 75 million paid subscribers with 170 million total active users. Apple recently hit 40 million subscribers. Its clear that both companies are a hit with consumers. In fact, the streaming music industry has revitalized the music business. I often get asked, how do I choose between Apple Music vs Spotify
Ive gone back and forth on that. In reality, Apple Music and Spotify are both excellent services. I remember paying $20 for a single CD that probably had two good songs. This time period is the golden age for music fans. We have access to all the music in the world for around $10 per month.
Is The Itunes Store Going Away
The iTunes name will fade away, but Apple will keep the store and its functionality in the Apple Music app. You can call it up if you want to buy new songs and albums, but if you do subscribe to Apple Music, you likely won’t have much use for a store.
Apple TV will have an app for the Mac, iPhone and Apple Watch, too.

Apple Music Vs Spotify Hardware Support
From a hardware support perspective, you could argue both are excellent. Apple Music excels if you are firmly in the Apple hardware ecosystem. If you have Apple TV, HomePod, and Apple Watch, Apple Music has a definite leg up on Spotify. If you use Amazon Echo devices, Spotify is well-integrated. Apple Music is on everything Apple, and Spotify is on just about everything non-Apple. Both services work with Sonos, but Spotifys integration is a little bit better in my opinion. You can use the Spotify Connect protocol inside the native Spotify app, but Sonos has a custom Apple Music interface inside its app.

What Comes With Apple Podcasts
As long as you have an iPhone, iPad, or iPod, you can and begin subscribing to your favorite shows right away . The subscribe feature allows users to be notified every time a new episode of that podcast is available. You can also access podcasts through Mac computers running iOS Catalina as well as on your Apple TV.
There are a wide variety of podcasts to choose from, from science, history, and news topics to scripted fiction, comedy, meditation, and panel discussion. Some podcasts choose to focus on true crime stories while others focus in on topics such as baking or TV shows like “The Walking Dead.”
Apple Music Vs Spotify Content Comparison
When looking at Apple Music vs Spotify, they are both loaded with music. Spotify claims it has over 35 million songs in its library. Apple claims it has 45 million songs. When it comes down to it, both are loaded with tons of back catalog and current content. Apple Music will have the occasional exclusive album for a few weeks, but most albums usually appear on both at the same time.
One aspect where Apple Music has a clear advantage is for content that isnt available on its service. A feature of Apple Music is iCloud Music Library. This feature lets you add music to iTunes on the Mac or PC, and then it will add it to your library across all your devices. This feature is helpful if you have a lot of live albums that arent available for any streaming service. iCloud Music Library is also handy when a record isnt available to stream but is to purchase. An example of when this is useful is when Taylor Swifts most recent album was released. It didnt appear on Apple Music or Spotify for three weeks. If you wanted to buy it as an Apple Music subscriber, you could just purchase it on iTunes and then it would be automatically added to your library. If you are a Spotify user, there is no way to do this. You can still buy it, but it would be inside the Music app on your iPhone vs being inside of Spotify .
Apple Music is also growing its music video section.
Outside of a few exceptions, both companies have more content than you could probably ever listen to.

How Much Do Podcast Cost
Now that it is clear to you what a podcast is and how it works, you may want to know if there is a fee you need to pay to access various podcasts on your devices.
Fortunately, most podcasts do not cost anything and you can download and listen to them for free on your devices. One search on Google will yield a number of these free podcasts for you to listen to on your compatible devices. Some of the podcasts offer certain parts under a fee, though. While the basic one will be free to use, the other part of the podcast will require you to pay a set amount of fee to access.
Then the third-type of podcasts you have are completely premium podcasts. You are going to need either a subscription to these podcasts or you need to pay a fee per podcast to access them on your devices. Since the creators spend a huge amount of their time and money to create podcasts, sometimes they do not offer them for free to the users.
Ios Tvos And Watchos Versions
A standalone Apple Podcasts app was announced at the 2012 Worldwide Developers Conference as a feature of iOS 6. Apple released the app early on the App Store on June 26, 2012. It adds a new “stations” feature for discovering new podcasts. It is a standard app on CarPlay.
A standalone Apple Podcasts app was brought to 2nd and 3rd generation Apple TVs on September 24, 2012 with the Software 6.0 update. The tvOS-based 4th generation Apple TV launched in October 2015 without the ability to play podcasts. This was despite a Podcasts icon appearing on the home screen in commercials, in-store demo loops, and developer documentation. Apple Podcasts was added with tvOS 9.1.1 released on January 26, 2016.

Apple Music Vs Spotify
Without a doubt, Spotify is the biggest name in music streaming, getting an early lead and building an unbeatable subscriber base. A big part of this is Spotifys ad-supported free plan. Although Apple Musics radio programs are free, it simply doesnt offer anything that can compete with so much free music.

Spotify has also built up a feature set that Apples offering cant yet match, like collaborative playlists and the ability to interact with your friends beyond sharing a playlist. Spotify also offers slightly better audio quality, although it still likely wont satisfy the needs of audiophiles, who should look to the likes of Tidal HiFi and other more expensive streaming options.
Pricing is virtually identical between Apple Music and Spotify, and both have extensive streaming libraries. Spotifys inclusion of podcasts may push it into the lead here, but really both are excellent options. Naturally, Apple Music becomes a better choice if youre already invested in Apples ecosystem, with excellent savings available with an Apple One subscription.
One App To Rule Your Ears
Ive had a Spotify account for years, but I primarily use Apple Music for all of my music. As part of this experiment, I cleaned up my Spotify to match my Apple Music library. I was going all in for this experiment.
Theres an argument to be made for creating a great app experience in terms of unifying everything inside a single app vs. separating them. For example, do you want your music mixed in with podcasts? Is it easier to find new shows? Apple used to have an iPod app on the iPhone where it had all your music and videos, but they eventually separated it.
Ive thought about this a lot, and I think I can sum it up to this: its tough to make a great music and podcast app as an all-in-one app, but if you can pull it off, itll be amazing. Unfortunately, after spending time with Spotify, I can say that they havent not for how I use podcasts and music, anyways. So, if youre looking for the TL DR of this article, Spotify is an excellent option if you listen to a few podcasts in your free time, but you primarily listen to music. However, if youre like me, and you spend more time listening to podcasts than you do any other kind of audio content, a dedicated app will better serve you.

Apple Music Vs Spotify Pricing
Both services are $9.99 per month. Both services offer family plans that cover up to six people for $14.99 per month. Both services provide student plans for $4.99 per month.
Apple also offers a $99 per year plan for single subscriptions. This plan makes the monthly rate $8.25 per month. Spotify has offered this plan on occasion in the past, but its just a promotion .
Spotify made the news recently by offering a bundle with Hulu
The bundle costs $12.99 per month, and for that you get Spotify Premium plus the entry-level Hulu package. Thats a saving of five dollars on the normal $18 cost. Spotify Premium subscribers can also trial Hulu for three months for just 99 cents.
The downside to this bundle is you cant use a Spotify family plan or activate any add-ons with Hulu. Spotify and Hulu also offer similar plan for students that is only $5 per month.
In the end, both services are around the same amount of money per month. If you are buying a single subscription, Apples $99 per year plan is the way to go.
What About The Creators
The move has excited members of the podcast creation community, with many seeing this a potentially dramatic shift in the podcast environment that could have ramifications on other providers.
” could be as seismic as the App Store has been for indie game developers,” said Pete Donaldson, creative director and founder of podcast creation studio Stakhanov. Its great to see Apple back at the table in such a big way, offering a super easy way to support content creators.
As well as offering an exciting new option for podcast listeners, Apple Podcasts Subscriptions now gives creators the opportunity to build and distribute premium content.
The Apple Podcasts for Creators website, for example, is intended to help creators learn more about podcasting, stay informed about the latest news and features and explore in-depth guides with best practices.
They can also access an updated Apple Podcasts Connect dashboard, containing new features making it easier to manage shows on Apple Podcasts, including the ability to edit metadata, schedule and manage show availability, organize shows into channels, manage multiple users and learn how listeners are engaging with content through new performance metrics and visualization tools.
Its from here that creators can enroll in the new Apple Podcasters Program which provides access to all the tools needed to build and distribute premium subscriptions on Apple Podcasts for $19.99 per year.
