  • 3rd & Lindsley
  • If youre hanging around the Downtown area, near the business center, dont hesitate to visit 3rd & Lindsley. This live music venue features an eclectic group of performers on a nightly basis, plus they have delicious food and drinks available.

The burgers and fries are really good, but whats even better at 3rd & Lindsley is the friendly staff and the top-tier sound system that lets you feel the music on your bones! The setting is intimate, only seating around 50 people. On my trip to Nashville, the locals said this was a must-see and they werent wrong.

I appreciated being able to purchase artwork and CDs from the artists that play at the venue. You get a bit of everything for the music selections, with country music being prominent. You dont pay a cover charge, the servers are attentive to food and drink requests, and theres always a great show going on.

Welcome back to the Nashville Bar Bike Blog! This is the spot to bookmark if you have any questions about what to do while you are on a visit through Music City. Speaking of music, did you know that Nashville is not just a place to go see Dolly Parton or Garth Brooks while they are in town? One thing about this city, we LOVE to be the host for musicians from all stages in their journey, from the very first busk all the way to sold out auditoriums. We were even able to snag an interview with an up and coming country musician who was lucky enough to work at Ernest Tubbs Record Shop back in 1987, check out our past articles to read up on that topic.

This week, here on the Nashville Bar Bike Blog, we wanted to take a moment to share some of our favorite smaller venues in the area. While you all know about the Ryman and how that particular building has been a staple to the creation of Country and Western music, you might be surprised to hear about all that our smaller venues have to offer. You never know, one day you might hear a song on the radio and think to yourself I remember seeing them play at Mercy back in 2021 or something along those lines.

The Pickin Parties are put on by Warner Parks and they are magical. Kids can dance and play PLUS you can get a discount on entry if you bring an instrument to pick on! They take place May through October on the Friday closest to the full moon.

SoBroThe Bluebird is the undisputed center of singer/songwriter in-the-round performances in Nashville, but not everybody wants to travel to the burbs on a visit to Music City. The Listening room downtown also features similar shows with troubadours singing their own songs, but in a much larger space with a first-class sound system and more extensive food and drink offerings. Between the Nashville location and a new outlet in Pigeon Forge, this establishment showcases a host of musical talent aimed at introducing tourists and locals alike to who might be the next big thing. Weekend brunch shows are especially popular.

    Springwater Supper Club And Lounge

Nashville’s live music venues ask Congress to ‘Save our Stages’ through relief bill

Vanderbilt/West EndCalling the Springwater a supper club is a bit of a tongue-in-cheek stretch. It is simply a cash-only dive bar serving cold beer and featuring an eclectic range of musical acts in a dark cinderblock room. What else would you expect from the oldest continuously operating bar in the entire state. So pull out your wallet and pull out a fiver instead of your AMEX for a change, buy a frosty brew and prepare to get your face melted by a cranking band or your heart broken by a talented singer/songwriter.

Singing along in Nashville is not normally discouraged! In fact, for music fans, it’s one of the best reasons to visit Music City, and there are music venues for enthusiastic fans to sing along, clap hands, dance, or enjoy the beat. The city also embraces more than country music to its credit, so if classic sonatas or opera are more your style, they’re readily available.

While a visitor to Music City can find live music being performed in bars and restaurants, on street corners and parks, and in smaller clubs throughout the city, it’s the concert halls and big stages that attract visitors in record numbers to experience the thrill of top-name performers and the latest hits.

    Nashville Music Events And Festivals:

    CMA Fest

Every June, Nashville becomes the center of the biggest country music festival in the world. There are free concerts at multiple locations downtown that are worth taking advantage of. There are also passes available for the nighttime concerts full of the biggest names in the business!

    Pilgrimage Music Festival

Bring your family and friends and dont miss Pilgrimage Music Festival this September! In Franklin at The Park at Harlinsdale, this festival has big names in country and indie music as well as smaller artists on the verge of making serious names for themselves. There are day passes and VIP passes still available. General admission day pass tickets start at $135 + fees.

    Live on the Green

This annual set of concerts provided by Lightning 100 is absolutely incredible. There are a few big name performers, but then a bunch of smaller artists playing these free concerts. There are food trucks, a fun atmosphere, and great music. Tickets are free, but VIP passes are available for the lounge area as well as a backstage option.

    Dees Country Cocktail Lounge

Although its only been open since 2016, Dees Country Cocktail Lounge has garnered a large following, and regulars can be spotted there every night of the week. The bar has even gained national attention: A 2020 article in Rolling Stone dubbed it one of the best hidden hangouts outside of downtown Nashville.

Located in the Nashville suburb of Madison, Dees Country Cocktail Lounge is best described as a time-traveling country bar from the 1970s. From the retro decor to the artists covering country legends such as Waylon Jennings and Hank Williams Jr., the bar exudes a classic country aesthetic.

But residents dont just come for the music and decor . In addition to the atmosphere, the food cant be missed. Some popular menu items include:

    • Chicago-style Italian beef: Think a roast beef sandwich meeting a French dip. These sandwiches are served au jus with thin layers of roast beef, hot giardiniera, and sweet peppers.
    • Frito pie: If youve never had a Frito pie, youre seriously missing out. A culinary icon of the Southwest, a Frito pie consists of ground beef layered over Fritos and topped with sour cream and taco sauce. And the best part? Its eaten right out of the bag.
    • Shitake mushroom bao buns: Topped with shitake mushrooms, cilantro, and green onions, and doused in a house-made hoisin sauce, these bao buns are the real deal.

The Basement & The Basement East

Andrew Leahey & the Homestead at The Basement

Arguably the best place to catch an underground rock show in Nashville, The Basement is an aptly-named small club located in the basement of a historic building on 8th Avenue South. Stop by on Tuesdays for their New Faces Night to watch sets from the up-and-coming local and touring acts, or check out their outdoor concert series this summer, Get Happier Fridays, for some free live music in the sun.

Hippo Campus at The Basement East

In 2015, a second location was opened on Nashvilles eastside, catering to larger touring acts. Destroyed in the 2020 tornado, but fully restored that same year, The Basement East quickly established itself as one of the best venues in town, putting on shows from John Prine, St. Paul & The Broken Bones, Maggie Rogers, Cage the Elephant, Dawes, and countless others.
