AMDA Associate of Occupational Studies Degree and Certificate Graduates are eligible to earn a Bachelor of FineArts degree in Acting, Music Theatre, Dance Theatre or Performing Arts by transferring in 60 performance creditsand completing 30 performance and 30 general education credits.

Note: Additional coursework may be required if you are applying for a BFA Program outside ofyour AOS or Conservatory discipline.

Student Health Insurance Plan 2022

The welfare of our students is essential to our vibrant performing arts community. Per the AffordableCare Act, all enrolled students on either campus must have both mental and physical health insurance atall times while attending AMDA. To assist students with this requirement, AMDA automatically enrollseach student in the Student Health Insurance Plan , an affordable service that offers studentsaccess to mental and physical healthcare services throughout New York City and Los Angeles. SHIPprovides vital resources to ensure AMDA students are healthy in body and mind for continued success intheir education. To waive out of SHIP, you must provide proof of comparable health insurance that meetsthe coverage requirements of the Affordable Care Act by the Friday of the first week of each term.

    American Musical and Dramatic Academy

    Performance-based Undergraduate Degree ProgramsAuditions are required for acceptance to AMDAs Conservatory Certificate programs, Associate Degree programs and Bachelor of Fine Art Degree programs. AMDA currently offers auditions through self-tape submission, virtual online appointments with an adjudicator, or socially-distanced individual in-person audition appointments. In-person audition appointments will begin in December 2020 and will be offered on our campuses and in select domestic and international cities. More information is available on our website: .

    My advice for applicants is to remember that we are not looking for perfection we are looking for potential. We want to get a sense of who you are and what you are about. Choose material that you feel a deep sense of personal connection to. We want to understand more about you through your selections. Show us material that excites you and shows off your strengths. Please note: This is not the time to reach beyond your comfort zone or try to show your range.

    Also, please be prepared for our adjudicators to work with you. We like to work with applicants in our auditions in order to get a sense of how you listen and take direction or adjustments. Be open to playing with us. Auditioning should be fun. Bring a joyful and open heart and we will do the same.

    Is Amda Right For You

    While living costs and other fees related to attending the college might top $50,000 per year, the price tag seems worth it. Unlike some theater schools, AMDA does not just prepare its students for acting careers.

I love my job because I get to be part of creating the school of my dreams the school that I wish was available to me when I was looking for my place in the world as a young artist. I know that a lot of young artists have a hard time finding where they fit. AMDA is a special place. We strive to create a place for young artists that are often left out of other higher institution models. We cater to the needs of young performers. We offer a lot of flexibility in our programs, extensive student support services, campus transfer options, and various timelines for degree completion. We are creating really exciting, cutting-edge performance work and developing the voices of young artists that are going out into the world to do some pretty incredible things.

    AMDA began its journey in 1964 as a musical theatre school emerging from the vibrant Manhattan arts scene. AMDA was born with a simple but powerful idea: to create a school run by professional performers, for performers.
